ELYRIA — A Lorain County jury on Friday awarded the owners of Gibson’s Bakery more than $11 million from Oberlin College in finding that the college inflicted emotional distress, interfered with business relationships and libeled the family-owned bakery in downtown Oberlin.

The Jury in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case has reached a verdict. According to our reporter in the Courtroom, the jury awarded $11 million. Here are the details: Allyn W. Gibson awarded $5.8 million, David Gibson #3 million, Gibson Bros. $2,274,500. Next Tuesday there will be a separate punitive damages which could be a double award (meaning tripling the $11 million to $33 million). According to Dan, Meredith Raimondo was held liable on the libel but not the other counts. We are still sorting out what that means in terms of damages against her.

Mounties have shot a woman in a wheelchair dead after she gunned down two people inside a Gibsons nursing home. One of the woman's victims is dead and the other has been taken to St. Paul's Hospital by helicopter. The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at Good Samaritan Christensen Village nursing home after two employees approached the wheelchair-bound resident. The woman allegedly shot them with a rifle.
