<p>WASHINGTON -- The conservative head of the California Republican Party has quietly stepped down from a national committee position, apparently under pressure from other party leaders.</p> <p>Without fanfare, California Republican Party Chairman Shawn Steel resigned last week from the Republican National Committee's executive committee, which exercises the national committee's executive and administrative functions between RNC meetings. Steel held one of the three seats appointed by RNC Chairman Mark Racicot.</p>
