A website aimed at combating so-called Internet "smears" about President Obama has disappeared from the Internet – including an alleged certification of live birth posted during his campaign – and archives for the website have been thoroughly scrubbed.

Two of the plaintiffs in court cases against Sen. Barack Obama, the president-elect, are working to move their cases forward before his presidential inauguration. Philip J. Berg, the attorney who filed suit against Mr. Obama challenging him to produce his original birth certificate to prove he meets the constitutional requirements to serve as U.S. president. Mr. Berg filed a Writ of Certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court late in October, in an effort to force Mr. Obama to produce the document. The Obama campaign says its candidate is a victim of “smears” -- and has even created a Web site to fight such attacks. Note the change to the second item. Obama's "Fact Checking" itself needs fact checking, it seems. See what they did there? Obama either trained ACORN pro bono (which strikes me as worse -- he was doing it out of love, not money) or as an independent contractor. So the now say he did not train them... as an employee. John McCain started smearing Barack Obama about non-existent ties to Fannie Mae in some of his deceptive attack ads. Anonymous smear emails have followed McCain’s lead by fabricating even more connections. These smears disguise the fact that Barack actually has a sensible, detailed plan to fix the economy — and it’s a much better source of answers than anonymous attack emails. Barack Obama’s campaign got wind of oppo researcher Stephen Marks’ plans to air the “The Real Barack Obama” ad produced by his 527 group pH for America on five TV stations in the battleground states of PA and MI starting this week, because his “smear-fighting” Web site has launched an attack on the attack ad. Referring to him as a “career smear peddler,” a “trickster” and a “scam artist,” the Obama campaign does not mention Marks by name, but coyly links to an entry on SourceWatch instead.

Israel Insider is reporting that analysts working separately have determined the birth certificate posted on the Daily Kos website and later on Sen. Did I just lose some brain matter, or did the Obama's Fact Check website, aka "Fight the Smears," retract the "Here is his birth certificate" statement? I could swear that this statement used to precede the image . Am I wrong? Did anyone else note the change? The way the page is now, there is no lead-in line to the image. BTW, I have a new post today explaining the possible reasons for blacking out certificate number.
