It’s all about the revenue. Civil forfeiture brings in money, and lawmakers are more worried about their budgets than residents’ due process and property rights. An Arizona bill requiring police and prosecutors to get a criminal conviction before they could attempt to force defendants to forfeit their assets died Thursday at the hands of a bloc of mostly Democrat lawmakers. Civil asset forfeiture is a mechanism that lets law enforcement seize and keep the assets of people believed to have committed crimes. Many states do not require defendants to actually be convicted — or sometimes even charged — with a...

A Utah cop kept explicit photos of a terrified college track star who was being sextorted by her ex — and showed them off to a colleague just days before the young athlete was murdered, according to his force and a damning report Sunday. University of Utah student Lauren McCluskey, 21, went to campus cops in October 2018 because she was so scared of her blackmailer — twisted ex Melvin Rowland, 37, a registered sex offender — she had already paid an initial $1,000 demand, the Salt Lake Tribune said. Officer Miguel Deras then saved the explicit images onto his...

A Missouri man who was planning to bomb a Kansas City-area hospital killed himself in March as FBI agents served a probable cause arrest warrant, the FBI said Friday. An autopsy determined that FBI agents shot Timothy Wilson, 36, of Raymore, Missouri, in the upper and lower extremities on March 24 on a street in Belton, Missouri, but that his cause of death was a self-inflicted wound to the head, the agency said. The FBI didn’t say if Wilson shot himself before or after the agents shot him. Investigators said Wilson was distressed by the government’s response to the coronavirus...

Bawdy photos have emerged of a South Florida sheriff partying half-naked alongside topless women wearing pasties — images that surfaced this week as the lawman is running for re-election. Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony, who was appointed in January 2019, has accused his political opponent, former sheriff Scott Israel, of leaking the photos to keep him from winning the 2020 election, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. The now-sheriff, who at the time was a sergeant at the Coral Springs Police Department, was seen in images at two events organized by a promoter for “erotic theme events, pool parties, strip and swing...

As conservatives, we pride ourselves on our unwavering support of the Thin Blue Line, on backing our cops against leftist slander, and yet stupid and evil people in law enforcement are putting that default thumbs-up from normal Americans at risk. It’s bad enough when we watch the ridiculous spectacle of Deputy Karren and Deputy Man-Karen yelling at some mom for committing felony play-dating, but then we see how the FBI has flat-out framed political enemies and it’s too much. If the LEO community does not police its own ranks and stamp out this nonsense, it might as well take all...

There is no constitutional right to be arrested. But I have been trying my damnedest lately without much success. In fact, last Tuesday I tried to do so in front of the governor’s mansion in Raleigh, North Carolina. But despite my flagrant violation of their order to get off the sidewalk, the police refused to arrest me. Instead, they arrested three women for peacefully standing on public property. Then, they lied about it to the general public. The details of the one arrest I actually witnessed are important. And they call for an immediate challenge in federal court. When I...
