  • Need a good civil rights documentary for my young homeschooled kids (Vanity)

Our kids are in second grade (homeschooled with me and my husband) and while they probably know more about the Civil War than most seven-year-olds, we haven't gotten into civil rights issues from the 1950's and 60's yet. However, our kids are old enough now to pick up on things from the radio and newspaper, so I think it's time to start to cover that. I'm looking for a relatively short documentary (or recordings of particular speeches, etc.) that presents Jim Crow, civil rights, MLK, etc. fairly factually and without a heapin' helping of white self-hate added in. (I also...
  • Soros' Investment in Terror Lawyer Backfires (Lynne Stewart)

Five-and-a-half years after being convicted of providing material support for terrorism, terror lawyer Lynne Stewart finally received a sentence commensurate with her crime. She was resentenced last week to 10 years. But if George Soros had his way, she would be free today. Stewart made a career out of defending street criminals and terrorists, including Sammy "The Bull" Gravano (pleaded guilty), Weather Underground terrorist David J. Gilbert (convicted), and Larry Davis (acquitted of wounding six policemen and killing several others in 1986, only to be convicted of a later murder and killed in prison). It should have come as...

China is wooing filmmakers at the same time as it’s cracking down on them. Authorities are handing more slots to documentaries, giving even independent filmmakers a chance to be shown on state television. But while China is avidly pursuing what it considers serious content to replace popular dating, reality and game shows, it is also stifling material with any whiff of challenging the Communist Party line. A weekend crackdown by authorities on an independent film festival in Beijing was the worst in its eight-year history, with police confiscating hundreds of films and briefly detaining two organizers. China’s broadcasting authority has...

Dinesh D'Souza's wonderful movie is moving up the Documentary ranks. As of posting this, it is #11 on the Political Documentary list. Political DocumentariesAll of us should have the goal to get this movie to #1 to pass the liar Michael Moore and his anti-American hit piece. I hope we can help this movie get there. Currently, it has grossed 4 million in 1,105 theaters. The liar's movie had 119 million and was in 2,011 theaters.
  • Forget LBJ’s ‘Daisy’ Ad. Watch Goldwater’s Campaign Film Choice

I haven’t seen the new documentary MITT and I’m not sure I can bring myself to do so. Living in the real-life aftermath of Romney’s failed presidential campaign is depressing enough without sitting through a cinematic autopsy, too. Some say that if this documentary or something like it had been screened before election day, Romney’s chances would’ve improved. Obviously we can’t know that for certain. I feel more confident declaring that had an infamous but little seen Barry Goldwater campaign film called Choice aired in 1964, he still wouldn’t have won. That’s because Goldwater had no chance of winning anyhow....

It's 2016, and the skies over America's heartland have turned tornado dark, seemingly for good. The economy has suffered a total collapse, and Americans are hungry and fearful. Anarchy reigns in some urban areas. Ever since President Obama, deep into his second term, withdrew U.S. forces from Afghanistan and Iraq, the whole of the Middle East has fallen under the control of al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. Such is the future in "2016: Obama's America," which hit theaters in July. Produced on a modest $2.5 million budget, it's amassed at least $32 million at the box office, according to...

August 28, 2012 Box Office Report: Anti-Obama Doc Surges to No. 2 on Monday by Pamela McClintock The film grossed $1.2 million for the day, according to preliminary estimates, bested only by "The Expendables 2." As Republicans gathered in Tampa, Fla., for the GOP convention, conservative documentary 2016: Obama's America rocketed to No. 2 at the domestic box office Monday. Obama's America grossed an estimated $1.2 million for the day from 1,091 theaters, dropping a narrow 37 percent from Sunday. Most films dropped 60 percent or more. The film, based on Dinesh D’Souza book, now has grossed $10.5 million to...

I slipped off to the third showing of 2016 on Friday in Tulsa at 2:15 pm (Friday). The theater is a large multi-plex that includes an IMAX. I'm picky about my theater seats so usually get there early, but today had a previous appointment, so arrived with about 7 minutes to spare. The parking lot was jammed, and the first clue was, every handicapped parking place was taken (I didn't need one:-) I found a good single seat high up in the middle of a row. The two seats to my right were empty but taken. The two to my...

Socialism is socialism — i.e., pure satanic evil. The only difference between one brand and another is how much the rulers are able to get away with. American socialists were complicit in Stalin's Holodomor. Walter Duranty of the New York Times won a Pulitzer Prize for facilitating the genocide by helping to cover it up. The socialists currently running that unspeakably vile publication have refused to renounce the prize. Give the Left enough power, and Americans will rot in mass graves. Don't take my word for it; Obama's cohorts have already said so. On the positive side, ending human lives...

Fair disclosure: I have just recently been banned from Gopachy.com . . . first time ever I've been banned from any discussion group . . . likely for just cause. I have no problem with the decision of Gopachy moderators . . . all things considered. IMHO, I was banned not because I was too conservative, which I was definitely not, but because I was too rude, and so very aggressive and violated the forum rules. Being banned was not a surprise. As one of my favorite teen year authors wrote: "And so it goes." -- Kurt Vonnegut. But ....

You've been hearing about the new documentary "Media Malpractice" by Zeigler. I just did a search for the film on Netflix and it does not appear. If you are a customer, please drop an email to them to let them know that you want to see the conservative documentary. I don't know if Netflix is run by leftwing nuts like Amazon is, but I remember how long it took for them to get "Is is True What They Say About Ann?" on their list. They do have a huge library of Soros-style documentaries, however, as well as gay porn.

The FBI has blocked two of its veteran counterterrorism agents from going public with accusations that the CIA deliberately withheld crucial intelligence before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. FBI Special Agents Mark Rossini and Douglas Miller have asked for permission to appear in an upcoming public television documentary, scheduled to air in January, on pre-9/11 rivalries between the CIA, FBI and National Security Agency. The program is a spin-off from The Shadow Factory: The Ultra-Secret NSA from 9/11 to the Eavesdropping on America, by acclaimed investigative reporter James Bamford, due out in a matter of days. The FBI denied Rossini...

THESE petitions from the Great and Good, damning John Howard, have persuaded me at last. We do indeed suffer from a culture of deceit. What finally won me was reading the name "Phillip Noyce" on the latest of these declarations -- a demand on the weekend from 40 actors, writers and directors for "truth in government". Phillip Noyce, I told my wife over breakfast. Demanding truth. Heavens. I just had to keep reading. You may have doubted that people paid to pretend or make things up are especially expert in truth, in government or anything else. But these petitioners shared...

The Los Angeles Times describes a series of mostly lefty documentaries being financed by philanthropists – filmanthropists – who "have deep pockets and issue-driven agendas. Rather than make high-class dramas that might carry some mild social message, these producers are turning out full-blown advocacy movies."The paper notes that, "in the eight months since Al Gore's global-warming wake-up call, ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ was released, the documentary film marketplace has exploded" and that these filmanthropists want to "shine a spotlight on social injustices, or government malfeasance, and even to recast history in the service of human uplift and national reconciliation."Among the documentaries...

Folks, I think you need to see either one or both of these videos. The first one is courtesy of Ignatius Press and it is the DVD of Pope John Paul II: The Movie, which I reviewed here almost a year ago, starring John Voight and Cary Elwes. They have two clips on line which you may watch here and here. The other one is called Obsession. Fox News reports:According to a shocking new documentary called “Obsession,” the free world is still unprepared to face the unwavering commitment of those who have pledged their lives to our destruction. The film...

LOS ANGELES - In "An Inconvenient Truth," now playing in theaters, former Vice President Al Gore asserts that global warming may soon eliminate one of the world's great natural vistas: the snows of Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro. In the forthcoming film "Who Killed the Electric Car?" celebrities such as Mel Gibson and Ed Begley Jr. lament the "murder" of General Motor's EV1 electric car and the loss of California's "most radical smog-fighting mandate since the catalytic converter." These two follow in the footsteps of other recent movies in the same nonfiction genre: last year's "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price,"...

I recently got around to buying the 1996 documentary movie Fire On the Mountain, the story of the 10th Mountain Division in World War II and the contributions its members made to America after the war. Why would a bunch of hip filmmakers who show at Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival want to even make a movie about soldiers who killed people? Well, first of all, the President at the time was FDR and Soviet Union was our ally, and members of 10th Mountain Division went on to create a number of trendy ski resorts, found Nike Shoes and even...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences singled out an eclectic group of 12 films to be considered for nominations in its category of best documentary feature. Five finalists will eventually be selected to vie for the Oscar. While Moore's influence could be seen in first-person documentaries such as Morgan Spurlock's ''Super Size Me," which made the cut, none of the nominees tackled the current political scene, though most have political points of their own to make.
