While the debate rages on over how much Russia really influenced the results of the 2016 presidential elections, one detail put the entire controversy in perspective: Democratic operatives spent an identical amount of money on their project to create a Russian bot “false flag” campaign during the Alabama 2017 special election. Josh Hawley, the Republican candidate for Senate in Missouri, on Saturday, demanded an FBI probe of a dirty-tricks campaign mailer that wrongly accuses him of opposing gun rights. The mailers urge voters to back a Libertarian or Independent voter over Mr. Hawley and do not include required disclaimers identifying who paid for them. “Voters telling me about fake & illegal mailers pro-Dem group is putting out. There should be an FBI investigation,” Mr. Hawley, the state attorney general, wrote on Twitter. He called for Democrat incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill to cooperate in a probe.

Democrats are warning hunters if they show up at the polls they may miss out on the next hunting season. The ads are well-designed and authoritative and the message, misleading: “Attention Hunters: Voting in North Dakota could cost you your out-of-state hunting licenses.” Put another way, it seems the party is telling voters that they can’t exercise one right without losing another.

Democrats -- one presumes -- sent out a false-flag mailer encouraging voters to vote for the libertarian in the race, billing him as the "true conservative" choice. Well, the Libertarian candidate himself realized he was being used dishonestly as a catspaw for Tester. So he's quit the race and endorsed the Republican, Matt Rosendale. The libertarian candidate had been polling at 4% or so; coincidentally enough, 4% is about Jon Tester's lead over Rosendale. So this could turn out to be a dirty trick that sinks the dirty trickster.
