Remington Arms announced last week that it will open a large manufacturing plant in Alabama. It will create 2,000 jobs for the southern state. While I don’t begrudge another state from securing these high-paying manufacturing jobs, I do begrudge our own leaders for forcing the “SAFE Act” upon its people and hindering economic development right here in New York. Its passage has undoubtedly affected Remington Arms, located in Illion, NY, for more than a century, from expanding in its home state. The SAFE Act makes gun owners and gun manufacturers feel unwelcome, plain and simple. I voted against the SAFE...

Candidates for Congress and the Legislature made a final push for votes on Sunday before Tuesday’s primary elections throughout the city and the state. In New York City, the most prominent of the hotly contested primaries are for Congress in a district in central Brooklyn and in another that includes all of Staten Island and part of Brooklyn. There are also competitive primaries throughout the state, notably in the Buffalo area. In the Staten Island Congressional district, the 13th, there are spirited races in both the Republican and Democratic primaries. The winners will compete in November for the Congressional seat...

Last year, 3,000 gun rights supporters arrived in Albany to protest Gov. Andrew Cuomo's anti-gun SAFE Act. It was such a high profile event, that even today's most prolific headline maker, Donald Trump, was in attendance. While the rally was largely peaceful, participants allege that Cuomo's administration ordered state police to bully them. State police harassed attendees and confiscated their replica guns, according to groups like the Shooters Committee on Political Education: SCOPE contends Governor Cuomo and his staff orchestrated rules and regulations that were enforced by troopers in order to intimidate protesters and disrupt their demonstration. "I was there, and it...

Let’s just admit that this arranged marriage isn’t really working anymore, is it? The partisan dynamic in Washington may have changed, but our dysfunctional, codependent relationship is still the same. The midterm results have shown that Democrats have become even more a party of cities and upscale suburbs whose votes are inefficiently packed into dense geographies, Republicans one of exurbs and rural areas overrepresented in the Senate. The new Congress will be more ideologically divided than any before it, according to a scoring system developed by Stanford political scientist Adam Bonica: the Republicans more conservative, the Democrats more liberal The...

This feature is brought to you by the Wouldn’t It Be Nice department of New York State News. After yet another wave of liberal policies being signed into law and sending more sensible citizens fleeing the state, New York Republicans have once again resurrected a favorite plan from days past. Republican Assemblyman David DiPietro has introduced a bill that would split up the Empire State into three sections. This wouldn’t result in two new states, but rather three autonomous regions, each with their own governor and legislature. (Washington Times) For decades, David DiPietro has watched his community in western...
