WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is praising the House for passing legislation to end the Pentagon policy that bans gays from serving openly in the military. The legislation awaits Senate action now. The House passed the measure 250-175. Obama says the legislation permits a smooth transition from the Clinton-era 'don't-ask-don't-tell' standard. Obama says the legislation will give the military "the clarity and certainty it deserves."

They already passed an amendment to repeal DADT back in May, but that was part of a broader defense bill. Today’s vote was on the standalone DADT bill that Lieberman and Collins are hoping to put in front of the Senate next week. The vote in May: 234-194, with just five Republicans voting yes. The vote today: 250-175, with 15 Republicans in the majority. (Among the 10 who flipped to yes this time: Jeff Flake.) It was smart of Pelosi to force a vote in the House, just as it was smart of Reid to table the vote on the...

Washington (CNN) -- The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to overturn the ban on openly gay and lesbian soldiers serving in the U.S. military, passing legislation repealing the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The bill -- a so-called "stand alone" measure not tied to any other legislative items -- passed 250 to 175 on mostly partisan lines. It now advances to the Senate.

The debate over repealing the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is no small item, particularly on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers have been engaged in a furious tug-of-war over the issue. But in one respect, at least, the effort by Democrats to repeal the policy banning gay soldiers from serving openly is small business — or rather an amendment to a bill called the Enhancing Small Business Research and Innovation Act of 2009. For procedural reasons aimed at circumnavigating some of the blocking efforts by Republicans in the Senate, the Democrats needed a legislative vehicle that the majority leader, Harry...

The New York Times is reporting Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) may force a sudden vote today, Wednesday, on the floor of the House of Representatives to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell and force open homosexual aggression upon our troops against their will.  But Marine Corps General James Amos immediately condemned the vote as costing lives:  "When your life hangs on a line on the intuitive behavior of the young man that sits to your right and your left, you don’t want anything distracting that." ----- The Senate may vote in less than 72 hours.  The Senate may vote by this...

Marine commandant concluded DADT repeal may risk lives By Kevin Baron Stars and Stripes Published: December 14, 2010 ARLINGTON, Va. — The nation’s top Marine Corps officer said he could not endorse a change in the “don’t ask, don’t tell” law that could cause distractions or endanger the lives of Marines in combat. Ultimately, the voices of forward-fighting combat Marines who worried about unit cohesion in the Pentagon’s survey swayed Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos, leading him to recommend that Congress not repeal the law banning openly gay Americans from military service. “Mistakes and inattention or distractions cost Marines...

Pray in Jesus Name Project 2 new bills to Homosexualize our military....Call Sens. Brown and Murkowski today Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) is expected today to file a Rule 14 motion waiving our troops right to have any committee review the new fast-tracked bill S.4022 that bypasses debate or hearings, and repeals the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law. The new bill forces open homosexual aggression on our troops against the will of 91% of our troops, using the same language that failed a cloture vote last week by 40-57 (thank God) in the Pentagon budget, but now rears its head again...

People who take polls for a living will tell you that, depending on the methodology, the sample, how a question is asked and the understanding of the ones being polled, the outcome can pretty much be predetermined. If you are dependent on a superior for your job and that superior tells you he wants a certain conclusion reached about a policy he wishes to implement, that, too, can affect the outcome. Such is the case with President Barack Obama, who has told gay rights groups he intends to end the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and allow homosexuals to serve...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama is likely to delay the start of his Christmas vacation to help several of his key legislative goals pass Congress before the end of the year, the White House said on Monday. Obama is tentatively scheduled to depart on Saturday for Hawaii, where the family traditionally spends its year-end vacation. But lawmakers are still debating the extension of Bush-era tax cuts and a new nuclear weapons deal, both of which Obama is eager to see approved. "The president will be here for as long as Congress is here," said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs,...

Next week will be crucial for gay rights advocates and congressional supporters of repealing the “Don't ask, don't tell” law. Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) are working to garner support for a standalone bill to repeal the Clinton-era ban on openly gay people serving in the military. Lieberman and Collins formally introduced that bill on Friday. The Senate this week dealt a severe blow to repeal when it fell short of the 60 votes necessary to start considering the defense authorization bill, which contains the repeal provision. At this point the standalone repeal bill is a last-ditch...

Troops who can't accept the idea of overturning the ban on gays in the military should consider leaving the service, says a senior aide to Gen. David Petraeus. Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill tells TV One's "Washington Watch" that he believes "the troops are ready" for the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. "If there are people who cannot deal with the change, then they're going to have to do what's best for their troops and best for the organization and best for the military service and exit the military service, so that we can move forward --...

Troops are ready for the end of 'don't ask, don't tell' By Roland S. Martin, CNN Senior Political Contributor (CNN) -- One of the reasons Defense Secretary Robert Gates commissioned a study on how the military feels about gays serving openly was because it was ridiculous to listen to politicians rambling on and on, and not to those who have to do the heavy lifting. When the results were released, they showed more than two-thirds believe their work wouldn't be harmed by changing the 17-year-old law. That was clear evidence to many that the law needed to be overturned. But...

Citing the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy governing homosexuals in the military, Senator Barbara "Don't call me Ma'am" Boxer (D-CA) recently compared the United States to Iran, North Korea, and Pakistan.According to an article at Fox News, the recently re-elected Senator from California said: “We now stand -- with this rule -- with countries like Iran, North Korea and Pakistan in banning gays and lesbians from military service ... Now our brave young men and women fight alongside allies like Australia, the United Kingdom and others who allow gays and lesbians to serve openly," she said. "Let's not stand with...

GOP-Wake up and realize the voters completely rejected Obama's agenda! 1.The tax 'compromise' is a disaster. Almost as much money as the failed 'stimulus'. The voters reject it! 2.The Military is not a social experiment. Gays already serve but are not to flaunt their sexuality. The voters reject repeal of DADT!! 3.Illegal immigrants will be amnestied if you allow the 'DREAM" Act to become law. The voters HEARTILY reject amnesty! 4.The START Treaty will compromise our National security. The voters reject it! 5.Unending 'Unemployment Benefits' (let's call this what it is.....WELFARE) are not a stimulus. They are a drain on...
