FLORIDA, July 14, 2013 — Since an all-female six-member jury in the central Florida port city of Sanford acquitted neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin on Saturday evening, attention has turned to prosecutor Angela Corey.

AUGUST 9--In an embarrassing screw-up, Florida prosecutors today accidentally distributed a post-mortem photo of Trayvon Martin as well as copies of George Zimmerman’s college records, material that Florida law considers confidential and exempt from disclosure. The documents were inadvertently included in supplemental discovery records distributed this morning by prosecutor Angela Corey’s office. The material was sent to a variety of media outlets, including TSG, that have paid fees to receive discovery provided by the government to Zimmerman’s lawyer. Yesterday I posted about how Alan Dershowitz alleged that Zimmerman prosecutor Angela Corey called up Harvard Law School complaining about Dershowitz and treatening to sue for libel based on Dershowitz’s criticisms of her handling of the case. The whole incident seemed strange, and reflected conduct that should be off limits for any prosecutor and certainly for a senior prosecutor on a high profile case. It appears, however, that the Dershowitz incident was no isolated incident. Please take the time to email Governor Rick Scott of FLA and tell him what a travesty of justice this George and Shellie Zimmerman case is becoming because of the special prosecutor HE appointed, Angela Corey, and her horrendous debauching of the law in this state. Please go on to take him to task for even considering rewriting the Stand Your Ground law based on nothing more than a racist witch hunt.

What is significant is that Corey reaches out with allegations of libel and the implied if not explicit threat of legal action towards critics. Corey thereby interjects her personal interests in her reputation into her public role as prosecutor with all the power of the state behind her. Littlepage, in a column today, suggests that Corey has tried to intimidate other critics as well. Someone in a position of authority in Florida needs to look into this situation, and determine whether Corey’s actions in confronting critics with implied if not explicit threats of libel suits have crossed a line.

Connors, whose daughter was a seventh-grader at West Middle School this spring, said an English class assignment requiring pupils to write a suicide note was highly inappropriate.
