One common response to the news that a Kremlin-linked online operation in Russia bought $100,000 worth of Facebook ads during the 2016 election campaign has been that the money is a drop in the bucket relative to the more than $1 billion spent on ads during the cycle, or the $27 billion in revenue earned by Facebook last year. But as one of a handful of Americans who managed the digital operations of a 2016 presidential campaign, I think $100,000 smartly spent on Facebook could have a much larger reach than you may realize. And more importantly, nobody — not...

Being reported in several places, Jerry Pournelle has passed away. Noted Science Fiction author, strategic analyst, early popularizer of personal computers, one of the original bloggers. In his own way he was one of the more influential Americans of the 20th century. As per Instapundit in a comment to his own post, "I just talked to Alex. Basically, Jerry just laid down for a nap and passed in his sleep this afternoon. It was nice that he, Alex, and Larry Niven got to hang out and have such a good time at DragonCon. It's as easy a death as one...

Amazon is planning to build a second headquarters that could measure up to 8 million square feet — and create 50,000 jobs, many of which pay $100,000 or more. The company is calling the second site "HQ2." It is asking cities to bid on the project, which is expected to cost $5 billion to build and operate. Amazon is prioritizing metropolitan areas with at least 1 million people. “We expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement. “Amazon HQ2 will bring billions of dollars in up-front and ongoing investments,...

America’s business leaders are speaking out against President Trump’s move to end DACA. The president of Microsoft, Brad Smith, took a notable stand. He said not only will his company lobby for a legislative solution but also that Microsoft is calling on Congress to make immigration the top priority, before tax reform. And he is calling on other business leaders to follow suit. “There is nothing that we will be pushing on more strongly for Congress to act on,” Smith said in an interview with NPR. “We put a stake in the ground. We care about a tax reform bill....

This morning, someone in Googleplex, Google’s sprawling facility in Mountain View, California, visited this Web site. I know because their company name and IP address, originating from 1600 Ampitheatre Parkway, appeared in my visitor log tracked by my statistics analytics service. (See graphic below.) Perhaps I should be pleased to see that LoudCitizen.org has attracted their interest. But the increasing suppression of free speech from tech giants like Google, Facebook and Twitter only makes me wonder if I am on their radar like so many others. I haven’t been this concerned since 2010, when I reported on Ray Kelly’s speech...

Your car. Your phone. The spare change in your pocket. They have one thing in common: A machinist helped to make all of them. “Most people don’t understand how products get made,” said Kurt Kimberling, an instructor in the Machining and CNC Technology program at North Idaho College. He has more than 30 years of industry experience. “Machinists have a hand in everything you use on a daily basis.” At NIC, Kimberling teaches basic to advanced machining concepts, such as precision measuring, operating a milling machine, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Students can earn an intermediate or advanced...

If you believe in equal justice for all, please SIGN this petition (Editor’s Note: Texan Art Bedford has posted a petition online at ipetitions.com. He is asking Americans who believe in equal justice to sign it, telling the FBI to “hold Hillary accountable.) As an Air Force retiree with over 30 years Military and Civil service as a communications intelligence collector, analyst and specialist, I routinely handled top secret sensitive compartmentalized information. If I had done anything near what Hillary Clinton and her staff had done, I would have been imprisoned regardless of my intent.

The 4th International Conference on Quantum Technologies held in Moscow last month was supposed to put the spotlight on Google, who were preparing to give a lecture on a 49-qubit quantum computer they have in the works. A morning talk presented by Harvard University’s Mikhail Lukin, however, upstaged that evening’s event with a small announcement of his own – his team of American and Russian researchers had successfully tested a 51-qubit device, setting a landmark in the race for quantum supremacy. Quantum computers are considered to be part of the next generation in revolutionary technology; devices that make use of...

Evidence that former FBI Director James Comey's testimony to a congressional committee may have been false and that his role in the investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's improper handling of classified emails might be better described as obstruction of justice emerged this week. Based on testimony from one of Comey's former staff members to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Subcommittee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) wrote a letter to the FBI requesting more information. "When Director Comey was before our committee he portrayed his decision to not pursue charges against Secretary Clinton as a...

The entire EU out to get Google battle can be framed in one sentence: Google is private in private industry, the EU bureaucracy is an unelected government There’s a new monster out on the trail patiently waiting for the unsuspecting to wander into its mouth before it snaps shut its vizor-like jaws from which there is no possible escape. The monster, the most monolithic of them all, is set to gobble the Internet while piously claiming to save the masses from Google.

Apple has announced it is planning to build two new data centers in Waukee, Iowa. Reuters reported that the two new data centers "will create hundreds of jobs for people in Iowa from construction to engineering," Apple CEO Tim Cook said, although it was left unclear how many of those jobs will remain once the data center is actually built. The new facility will set Apple back $1.375 billion, although $207.8 million will be received in incentives approved by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Waukee city council. The company will buy 8.09 square km of land in Waukee, some...

An armed Antifa group is launching a new cell in Philadelphia, with support from the “alt-left” alternative media. The group currently hosts anti-police workshops called “Our Enemies in Blue.” The group draws inspiration from convicted murderers and calls for violence against the police, theft of goods, and armed insurrection. Antifa websites like It’s Going Down, Sub.Media and Insurrection News have been promoting the group, which calls itself the Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement, calling on their readers to donate to a Fundrazr account for the creation of the new cell. The press release the group published in far-left media is filled with...

We are looking to relocate from Columbus, Georgia to Phoenix, Arizona. Two members of my family suffer from the local pollen and humid weather. We also need to be closer to traditional Catholic Latin Mass and Sacraments. Wonderful as Columbus is culturally and politically (in the region, not the city proper), there aren't a lot of local traditional Catholic resources. I have been stymied in my attempts to even get so much as an interview for the jobs I apply for online. Presently, I work in IT (storage/servers/backup) in the financial industry. My skills are not cutting edge and I...

Explosive allegations about Donald Trump made by online writers with large followings among Trump critics were based on bogus information from a hoaxer who falsely claimed to work in law enforcement. Claude Taylor posted tweets reporting fake details of criminal inquiries into Trump that were invented by a source whose claim to work for the New York attorney general was not checked, according to emails seen by the Guardian. The allegations were endorsed as authentic and retweeted by his co-writer Louise Mensch. The source’s false tips included an allegation, which has been aggressively circulated by Mensch and Taylor, that Trump’s...

Stand up to the progressive left-guided mainstream and social media, by keeping on going to the videos and news sites of your choice One by one, they’re turning the lights off on the Internet. Not long ago the promised Information Highway for everyone, the World Wide Web is fast transforming over to the Misinformation Highway. An all-powerful Google is now flat-out dictating which videos you will be able to see. A pious Facebook the judge and jury of which topics will be permitted to trend

After Charlottesville and the murder of Heather Heyer, hitherto Nazi-friendly internet companies have found their boots and their banhammers. The angry right has for some time anticipated this eventuality, and colonized or established replicas of key services and platforms. 8chan, Voat and Gab are the most well-known examples, respectively resembling 4chan, Reddit and Twitter. Adi Robertson writes that the internet's plumbing, the world of domain name registrars and load mitigation, will be harder to replicate. Why the alt-right can’t build an alt-internet. Even if such a registrar could ignore bad PR, activists could still lodge complaints with the registries, which...
