ABC 7 noted that, as of Sunday, July 7, 2024, Chicago, Illinois, was nearly at 1,200 shootings for 2024. Ironically, Sunday was the last day of the July 4, 2024, weekend — a weekend in which at least 100 people were shot, 17 of them fatally, in the Windy City. According to ABC 7, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling reacted to the July 4 weekend violence by saying, “We cannot take our eyes off the ball. We cannot stop thinking about the people who have been victimized by this crime.”

Douglass Academy High School had 35 students with nearly 900 seats unfilled. None were proficient on the SAT. The Chicago Teachers Union wants to add at least eight staffers there and at every other school in the district at a cost of $1.7 billion. Only 35 students enrolled in Douglass Academy High School for the 2023-2024 school year, but the building can hold over 900 students. A 63-year-old man was attacked by a group of more than a dozen teenagers on the Orange Line train in downtown Chicago on Monday night, he told FOX 32. CHICAGO (CBS) -- The owner and an employee of a Near West Side store have been arrested on felony charges, after Cook County Sheriff's police recovered $2.4 million in stolen merchandise they allegedly were selling to customers. Sheriff's police said officers executed a search warrant at the Flee Club store in the 2200 block of West Taylor Street on July 2, after investigators discovered employees were knowingly buying stolen goods and reselling them at the store.

The man reportedly approached the victim on the platform and used a translator app to demand their belongings while showing a gun, according to police. The victim turned over his belongings, and the suspect ran away. It's unknown what languages were being translated. It is also not known what app the suspect used. The man was captured on CTA security cameras. Chicago police released the image to ask the public to help identify him.
