The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of New York said Thursday afternoon that Mahmud Faruq Brent, also known as Mahmud Al Mutazzim, is in federal custody in New York. ORANGE – Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will be making about $5,000 a minute when he takes the stage at Chapman University next month to deliver the school's annual Global Citizen address. Duane "Dog" Chapman is upset a $300,000 federal bond remains in place even though a Mexican judge has dismissed charges against him. The TV bounty hunter posted the bond and was freed after being arrested last September as he fought extradition to Mexico. He had been charged under Mexican law with "deprivation of liberty" for his 2003 capture of a fugitive convicted rapist in Mexico. Mexican Judge Jose Alberto Montes dismissed the charges last month, ruling the statute of limitations had expired.

A former D.C. cab driver pleaded guilty today to conspiring to support a Pakistani group on the U.S. terrorism list by attending one of its training camps, officials said. Mahmud Faruq Brent, of Gwynn Oak, a Baltimore suburb, was arrested in 2005. He had been scheduled to go on trial on April 24 along with two New Yorkers and a Florida doctor. GUADALAJARA, Mexico — A federal court has cleared the way for TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman to be extradited to face charges in Mexico, court officials said. Norma Jara, a spokeswoman for the second district court in Guadalajara, said the court rejected Chapman's injunction request, ruling there was no reason not to try him with the charge of deprivation of liberty of Mexico. "We only just heard about the Mexican court's decision to continue with the extradition proceedings, and are still in shock," Chapman and his wife, Beth, said in a statement issued Thursday night in Honolulu.

Mark David Chapman, 51, must remain at Attica Correctional Facility for at least two more years for gunning down the former Beatle outside his Manhattan apartment building in 1980.
