The United States Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development has announced its 2014 grants. Our news story summarizing the grants suggests that a very large number of them fund political advocacy. It would be very interesting to know what percentage. As compared with what? Well, as compared with direct charitable activities in which Catholics help those in need to adopt the values required for human well-being, acquire the education and formation necessary to spiritual and material success, develop the habits and infrastructures necessary for economic and community development, and fund specific initiatives (such as new businesses) which put people to...

Rockford, Il – 6-12-2013 – (ProLifeCorner.com) – by Rockford Pro-Life Initiative – The Catholic Campaign for Human Development, known for funding organizations that support abortion, contraception, and attacks on the family, recently had a report issued on its behalf and signed by former CCHD staff members. The report titled, “Be Not Afraid” claims that in order to continue the mission of social justice organizations that support the murder of babies in the womb, support contraception and the redefinition of marriage, they must and will continue to be given Catholic money.http://www.faithinpubliclife.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/FPL-CCHD-report.pdfThis report is stunning in its ability to completely ignore the mass murder of...

One answer to that question is "when the CCHD and their supporters start their preemptive screeds against faithful Catholics concerned about their left-wing leanings". For example, David Gibson of Religion News Service starts his piece by claiming that "conservative activists are threatening the social mission of the Catholic Church... by attacking the Church's flagship anti-poverty program with 21st-century style Catholic McCarthyism." Of course he refers to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Obviously Mr. Gibson is unaware that the CCHD, by policy, gives no money to organizations that directly perform the Corporal Works of Mercy. Perhaps Mr. Gibson...

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 19, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) - The new head of a Catholic philanthropic organization is a longtime Obama advisor and member of the Religious Left. Alexia Kelley has been named CEO and president of the Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities (FADICA). According to its website, FADICA “reinforces a foundation’s Catholic values, family mission, and faith-based stewardship.” Kelley takes her new position after serving as director of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The committee is headed by Joshua Dubois. Like Kelley, Dubois favors an “abortion reduction” strategy focused heavily...

In view of the information below about the U.S. bishops' domestic "charity," the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD),  I have a question: Who is more zealous about winning souls? The prince of this world or the U.S. bishops? ____________________________________ IT'S BAAACK...ANNUAL COLLECTION FOR CCHD -NOVEMBER 17-18 In about ten days, most dioceses in the United States will take up the annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. For years, researchers have demonstrated that a large portion of the collection goes to Alinskyite community organizing groups that advance abortion, contraception, same-sex activity, and cultural Marxism. In 2010 the controversy alarmed...

GAMALIEL FOUNDATION DECEIVES CATHOLIC FUNDING AGENCY The Reform CCHD Now Coalition (RCN) Uncovers Fraud and Deception By Network of Grantees Receiving Catholic Funds WASHINGTON, DC – The 24 member Reform CCHD Now Coalition (RCN) released its latest report on organizations receiving funds from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). The 2012 report reveals that one of the CCHD’s longest-running grant recipients, the Gamaliel Foundation, attempted to deceive the CCHD regarding its relationship with an organization promoting homosexuality. Beginning in 2010, RCN has investigated organizations receiving funds from the CCHD, reporting on grantees that promote abortion, homosexuality, birth control and...

While hoping that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development will actually be reformed, faithful Catholics are right to remain skeptical. Prudence dictates continued withholding of contributions from this "Catholic" in name only charity that funnels money to so many immoral organizations. Michael Hichborn details the latest head shaker in his article about the Chelsea Initiative, a group that promotes homosexual activism. CCHD actually tried to convince this pro-homosexual group to KEEP their $40,000 grant after the group returned it saying they could not comply with CCHD rules. HUH? Can somebody at CCHD explain this? Sounds like Chelsea has more integrity...

For three years now, Compañeros, a small nonprofit organization in rural southwestern Colorado, has received thousands of dollars from the Roman Catholic Church to help poor Hispanic immigrants with basic needs including access to health care and guidance on local laws. But in February, the group was informed by a representative from the Diocese of Pueblo that its financing from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, an arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops devoted to ending poverty, was in danger. The problem, the diocesan liaison explained, was Compañeros’s membership in an immigrant rights coalition that had joined...

In this election year, we have been confronted with all types of attacks on our Catholic faith. Those attacks have been orchestrated by the current Obama administration and by a number of so-called Catholic politicians. The USCCB bureaucrats and other anti-Catholic entities have led us down the plank and this document posted below is the first of many documents that Better Catholic Giving will be posting to prove that many, many efforts by the Catholic bishops have backfired and are coming back to bite us with the HHS mandate. Because we have allowed many of the peace & justice liberals...

Every November, including this one, American Catholics -- who constitute approximately 25% of the U.S. population -- are asked to contribute to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). The Catholic faithful have been told that their donations will go to fight poverty. Little do most of them realize what their money will actually fund. CCHD is the brainchild of Saul Alinsky, the "father of community organizing." Alinsky (1909-1972) had numerous connections in the Catholic community of his native Chicago, some of them nearly as radical as he was. He helped start CCHD in 1969. Unfortunately, the benevolent-sounding term "community...

WHAT BCG DOES BETTER CATHOLIC GIVING (BCG) is committed to go beyond important, but limited web-based investigations and just settling for the 'company line' from the CCHD gatekeepers at the USCCB and local (arch)diocesan offices. Their answers haven't sufficed. Hitting the pavement - The BCG will be paying surprise visits to many of the most questionable CCHD-funded organizations, and report our findings right here at the Better Catholic Giving web site. Whenever possible, we will also seek out people who are 'helped' through these CCHD-funded groups to see if they are really 'breaking the cycle of poverty'. This is our...

For many years now, Catholics across America have been asked by their local parishes to contribute to a variety of causes, mostly to help the less fortunate. As Catholics we are called to live the gospel and to practice the corporal works of mercy. This includes aiding those who are in need of basic necessities: from food and shelter to clothing and education. The Catholic Church is indeed the largest charitable organization on the planet. While many Catholic charitable activities have done and continue to do good work on behalf of the poor, there are a number of specific efforts...

Imagine buying an apple from an orchard, biting into it, and discovering that the apple is full of worms. You’d be upset, wouldn’t you? In fact, you’d probably take the apple to the farmer, point out that the apple is full of worms, show him your receipt, and ask for a refund. Now imagine that instead of making amends, the farmer started telling you about how his staff is thoroughly committed to picking only the best apples and that his orchard has a rigorous policy in place to make sure that apples with worms are not sold from his orchard....

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is offering unusually strong and public criticism of critics of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the USCCB’s controversial anti-poverty program. “Despite significant progress, some things don’t change,” said Bishops Jaime Soto and Stephen Blaire in a memo to all US bishops. “The American Life League continues to attack CCHD and the USCCB. Judie Brown, Michael Hichborn and the American Life League (ALL) continue to recycle allegations that CCHD funds many organizations that are in conflict with Catholic teaching.” “In one case, a clear violation occurred after the grant was approved...

Under the pretense of fighting poverty and injustice, the USCCB-run Catholic Campaign for Human Development has disfigured Catholic Social teaching to make it nothing more than a tool to help promote sexual immorality and Communism.

Appointed twice by Pope John Paul II and again by Pope Benedict XVI to the Pontifical Academy for Life, renowned pro-life leader Judie Brown's bold new book The Broken Path reveals the political intrigue and challenges faced by and at times caused by the hierarchy of America's Catholic Church. After five years of exhaustive research, whether heaping praise or burning coals, The Broken Path makes clear not only what can be done, but what must be done to restore our nation's character, to return our society to a Culture of Life, and to reclaim both the Church and country that...
