Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk announced that he’s moved from California’s Silicon Valley to Texas on Tuesday. Musk made the announcement at a Wall Street Journal virtual event, and he didn’t have the kindest words for his former state. “They do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled, and then they don’t win the championship anymore,” he said of the far-left state. “And I think they’re taking them for granted a little bit.” Musk predicted that Silicon Valley, the longtime home of Big Tech monopolies, would decline. “I think we’ll see some reduction in the influence of...

Firefighters in Silicon Valley were sent out to enforce statewide business restrictions as the state faced a Thanksgiving shadowed by an out-of-control coronavirus surge and health officials begged people to avoid large family gatherings that could become “superspreader” events. Black Friday sales that typically draw enormous crowds also are in the spotlight. The holiday season leading into Christmas can account for a large chunk of store profits. But stores must follow COVID-19 safety orders such as requiring employees and customers to wear masks and observe social distancing, health officers warned. Compliance officers were to fan out throughout the county starting...

A giant thunderstorm hovered above the Creek Fire on Saturday, shooting smoke plumes into the stratosphere as flames tore through the Sierra National Forest below — and an obscure meteorological term briefly burst into the popular lexicon: pyrocumulonimbus. biggest ever produced above U.S. soil. The record-breaking plume gushed huge volumes of pollutants into the earth’s already warming atmosphere. Stunned passengers on a passing plane snapped photos showing the peculiar shape and immense size of the cloud. It was just one of the many abnormal events that has kept all eyes trained on the skies in recent weeks, as the wildfire...

Power outages, fires, water shortages, rising taxes, crumbling and congested highways, dismal schools, lawlessness …It is now August in California. So we can expect the following from our postmodern state government. There are the now-normal raging wildfires in the coastal and Sierra foothills. And they will be greeted as if they are not characteristic threats of 500 years of settled history, but leveraged as proof of global warming as well as the state’s abject inability to put them out. When the inept state can’t extinguish them as it has in the past, it suggests that it’s more “natural” to let...
