Our little west Texas city of Midland, pop. little over 100,000, had our Tea Party today. It was great and I was so surprised at the size of the crowd. Even though we are predominately conservative, there was a much better turn out than I expected. I talked to one of the sheriff's deputies and he estimated about 1,500 showed up.

One of al-Qaeda's founding leaders, Dr Fadl, has begun an ideological revolt against Osama bin Laden, blaming him for "every drop" of blood spilt in Afghanistan and Iraq. Sayyid Imam al-Sharif: The terrorist attacks on September 11 were both immoral and counterproductive, he writes

Call to action: Possible Action Items for Regional FReeper Conventions http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2188527/posts I would be happy to organize, or help organize, a West Texas get-together to jump-start this area. If those in the Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, Seminole, others I haven't named in West Texas would contact me, we’ll get this rolling. (However, Lubbock might prefer to be in a Panhandle group, but they’d be more than welcome in this one) Borrowing this from nomad: As conservatives of different stripes, its our right to act as individuals, however, its this same love of personal freedom which is under attack, therefore, lets try...

SENATOR Edward Kennedy has been the godfather of America's immigration policy since the mid 1960s. No other figure in American politics bears as much responsibility as he for the current pathetic state of U.S. immigration affairs. As chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Senator Kennedy has had chief oversight responsibility for the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which he has allowed to degenerate into one of the most ineffective agencies in the Federal Government. He was the chief sponsor of the Immigration Amendments of 1965 and the Refugee Act of 1980, and a major proponent of the fraud-ridden 1986 immigration...

S. Marine Corps Cpl. Shaun Sanders' account of what it means to serve his country was one that watered the eyes of many, mine included. This fine young man, for our newspaper's Veteran's Day edition, was asked to write what it means to be a veteran, from the younger generation's perspective. He wrote about returning home from a tour in Iraq last year with about 20 exhausted comrades when they unexpectedly came across a crowd of strangers at a Dallas airport. The people were dressed in red, white and blue, cheering and clapping during a public display of gratitude for...

I have heard many libs versions of patriotism and it doesn't really meet my standard. Looking in the dictionary all it says is "Devotion to one's country". Patriot "One who loves his country and zealously guards it's welfare; defender of popular liberty." I guess I'm looking for more specifics and maybe those are in how we show our patriotism. I'm curious about FR comments on this.

(WASHINGTON) Reports linking Vice President Al Gore with notorious anti-gay activist Fred Phelps, Jr., and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas were confirmed with the release of photographs showing Gore at a fundraiser at the home of Fred Phelps, Jr., who told the Conservative News Service on October 16 that he served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988. Gore, who was quoted by the Nashville Tennessean in 1984 saying homosexuality is not "an acceptable alternative that society should affirm" and said in his 1984 U.S. Senate race that he...

(September 14) By a vote of 283-138-1, the House today passed a stand-alone border fencing bill (H.R. 6061) sponsored by Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King (R-NY). excerpt..... This action is an outgrowth of the summer-long series of field hearings which led House GOP leaders to conclude that the public is demanding an enforcement-first approach to immigration reform prior to the election.

CAIRO, Egypt — An American who allegedly joined Al Qaeda appeared in a videotape along with the terror group's deputy leader on Saturday, calling on Americans to covert to Islam and for U.S. soldiers to switch sides in the Iraq and Afghan wars. The 48-minute video, posted on an Islamic militant Web site, had footage of Al Qaeda's number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri and of Adam Yehiye Gadahn, a 28-year-old American who the FBI believes attended Al Qaeda training camps in Pakistan and served as an Al Qaeda translator. It was the second time Gadahn has appeared in the same video...
