So if I understand your reply, my idea is not bad except that the politicians and the Federal Reserve/Treasury have a ponzi scheme of their own that they are not about to give up.

    Am I close?

    I have a question:

If the total deposits in the USA are in the area if 7 trillion, how much of that is really at risk? Maybe 2 trillion at the most?

So suppose that instead of the insane stimulus bill, the government had agreed to insure any and all accounts, whether they be $50,000 or $500 million.

Then just let the bad banks go bust with no such rule as too big to fail.

Not all banks would go bust.

Most that would go bust have assets that would be purchased by others resulting in a much less than total loss.

Therefore, even if 1/3 of the banks went bust, the loss to the government would not be $2 trillion.

As it is, we are setting ourselves up to a cost far exceeding $2 trillion and are not really bringing about a cure.

The real cure is to get rid of the bad banks and put their management on the roles of the unemployed where they might find a job more in line with their capabilities.

Novices in the futures market last about as long as the proverbial snow ball in hell.

You don’t have to pass a stupid law to get them out. They die.

    Broke.

In addition to your very good explanation, I would like to add that futures traders bring one other very important thing to the public notice.

They are a weather vane pointing to a problem. Further, even though they are not always right, they believe in the fact that there will be a potential problem or shortage enough to put their money where their mouth is.

So when speculators jump on a commodity, as they did on gold and oil, the rest of us should pay attention.

In other words, don’t shoot the messenger.

Farmers have learned that lesson well.

It is beyond my understanding; it is mind boggling that anyone can run for president regardless of his character.

If this is the case, Ayers himself could run because he was not convicted and therefore is not a felon.

    We are in trouble.

I have a question about trust.

Can BO get the top security clearance required by the president?

With his ties to people like Ayers, and he is not the only one, how can he not be considered a security risk?

I have suggested to Rush Limbaugh that he put pressure on the FBI and Secret Service to determine if the guy really is trustworthy.

If he can't pass the test for a top secret clearance, that ends him for good.

Although I agree with all of the above posts, I think all of it misses the point.

We know and agree on the above. So the point is: How do we influence the idiots in congress, including senator Dole from my state?

How do we get rid of them? If that is not possible in the short term because of the election cycle, how do we knock sense into their heads?

Talking about it endlessly puts us in the same boat as the congress: All talk and no action.

    What do we do?

I have written Senator Burr, who definitely agrees with us and I get good replies.

I have written Dole and if you did not see her name on it, you would swear that the reply came from Ralph Nader.

I wish the dumb repubs would wake up.

The dims keep talking about “failed policies of the past”

Theirs is the failed policy of the past.

Until the dims and the tree huggers took over, there was plenty of oil, plenty of energy, gas prices we could afford.

Then came the tree huggers and the micro managers.

After 30 years of their meddling with the free market system, we have the results in today's energy crisis.

The repubs need to rub in in over and over that the failed policies of the past are: Attempts to prevent drilling in areas they consider to be unsuitable for drilling, rule making that make it too difficult to build new refineries, laws or rule making that prevent the use of high sulfur diesel for any purpose, rule making that requires special gasoline blends for certain areas of the country, etc.

They are the failure that needs to be abandoned.

But the pubs are too gutless to hit them head on.

Whether these statements are 100% accurate or not is important.

But what is even more important is that they are not being discussed by the self important talking heads on TV, which is where the sheep get their “news”.

An investigation of each of these statements could be the subject of an entire program for Chris Wallace, 60 Minutes or whatever; enough material for every week for the rest of the election cycle.

But that would take a lot of effort and the talking heads have discovered easier ways of promoting themselves.

And, they have not arrested anyone yet.

When the cops seize the children and tell their parents that they can not retrieve the children, that the parents can not leave with the children, you are essentially imprisoning the parent because that parent can not leave with the children.

In other words, it is sort of like a loose version of house arrest in that you may not be in jail, but then neither can you call yourself free to come and go.

It is a text book case of cops abusing the public.

IF they had found a crime and arrested the person or persons who committed the crime, OK.

But you can not put everyone under some sort of judicial restraint (not able to leave with the children, not able to mention Jeffords by name, threats that they must give up their religion or association with that church; all amount to some sort of judicial restraint or penalty.

It would be the same as if you as a Catholic were put under all sorts of restraints because you had a priest that was accused but not convicted of pedophilia.

You are supposed to penalize the person who committed the crime and leave every one else alone.

I saw it on FR. I did not bookmark the link.

However, only yesterday it was on the news and in the papers that everyone was strictly forbidden from mentioning Jeffords name in front of the children.

    Tonight, there is this http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2019458/posts

Which has nothing to do with religion, but everything to do with the thin evidence.

I have an idea you are pretty young.

Find an old Catholic who lived in a remote area of the South in the 1940’s and 1950’s and ask him how the “real” Christians treated them.

There is a thing called body language and it exists in the written word as well as in life on the street and I see in a lot of the stories about this situation connotations or body language, if you will, that indicate religious persecution.

Now there are a lot of religions I don’t agree with: Snake handling, just to make an example, but the fact is that the government is forbidden to get into that.

If a felony has been committed, that is one thing but even then the cops are supposed to have the evidence before they arrest.

They can’t even arrest Drew Peterson even though they know he killed two wives because they do not have proof.

And that is the way it should be.

I am not a lawyer, but if I had been, it would have been a criminal defense lawyer even though much more money is made in civil law.

Because it is the cops duty to follow the law, dot every “i” and cross every “t”.

Otherwise, you end up with cops just pointing their finger at you and off you go.

Breaking up families and traumatizing children on nothing more than an anonymous crank call is way over the edge.

Even a crank call requires some level of investigation, but the investigation must come first, not last.

    The solution is easy.

Parts of it are contained in the above messages, so to put the ideas together:

Build nuke plants for the 40% load that exists during night time hours.

Just think of how much power that would amount to!!! Unreal.

Then offer industry cut rates, real low ball cut rates providing they use the power at night.

As more industries come on line, add the required Nuke plants to supply them. That would make available more nuke power for the peak periods.

Then use the coal fired plants to meet peak loads.

I don't know that this will save oil, as I am not sure how much oil is used in the generation of power. It was my impression that most are either coal or gas with gas being used mostly because it is assumed to be cleaner.

Are you certain the law is being followed or is the law being abused.

To make it simple, like the speed limit law can either be enforced fairly or used as a speed trap to nail tourists with out of state plates.

In this case, there are religious overtones.

For instance, if the news media is correct, there are already religious restrictions on the sect members.

That is something to worry about.

I can remember when all you had to do in the South was mention the Catholic religion (of which I am not a member) and every preacher in earshot would practically froth at the mouth.

Are we going to ban certain religions? If so, I would like to submit my list.

I don’t blame you for being outraged.

My God, the military will find out how you bastards vote.

And you forgot to mention that the title of the bill is a total farce for that bill had absolutely nothing to do with financing the military.

It was all about taxing the over taxed and slush money for you back home.

So when the President vetoes it, the only thing the ignorant public who rely on the liberal rags will see is: PRESIDENT VETOES MILITARY APPROPRIATIONS BILL.

    What a bunch of scumbags.

Lastly, it was well demonstrated that the Republicans never controlled the Senate. They had a majority but not the magic 60 required for passage of cloture bills.

The problem was and still is that the repubs after they pushed through their “Contract with America” lost the initial enthusiasm.

The senate and house leaders, after that initial enthusiasm was gone, laced the will or the skill to manage their troops.

Dims do not break ranks. Those that do suddenly find that Murtha and his ilk shut them off. No money for home, no nothing.

GW with the power of the veto and congressional leaders with balls could have slapped the RINO’s around so badly they would have supported conservative legislation.

Look at how the dims manage their people now. How many dims, even the less liberal, do you see voting like Dole did against her party and against her president, an absolute disgrace that she would vote against drilling in ANWR at the very time the president was in Audi Arabia, hat in hand like some banana republic president, begging for more oil.

Although I agree with almost all of the posts on this thread, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I have long complained of GW’s inability to communicate with the public regarding various serious matters; but the rest of the repub leadership (if I may exaggerate enough to call them leaders) has been totally cowardly, ineffective, inept and due the consequences they will justly get in November.

You can't put guts in someone who is born without them. So trying to goad them into action is useless. We will just have to go through the cycle of seeing them replaced by dims and then later the dims replaced by persons with the guts to fight.

One of the senators from my state, Dole, is a #1 example of the “go along to get along” wimp RINO'S. I will not vote for her.

One of the better columnists, I forget who, said today that you can forget any promises of smaller government.

His major point was that government is going to grow in the most accelerated manner you have ever seen; that the fight is not over whether government will grow, but over who will control it.

Meaning, of course, who will get to put his hand in the till.

This growth will occur because of the emphasis on global warming and alternative energy.

Who controls also controls the money.

Think about it. You are in politics, possibly about to be put in control of the biggest money stream in US history (DOD may be the exception), so are you going to blow the whistle and get your gravy train off the track?

Not if you are a politician. Only you, an honest person might.
