Speaking on Wall Street last night, Senator McCain of Arizona sounded more like an economic populist than a proponent of the kind of unbridled free-market capitalism promoted by many who work on the trading floors nearby.
At a town hall meeting in Federal Hall, the presumptive Republican nominee for president endorsed a federal probe into speculation in the oil markets, a phenomenon that some analysts contend accounts for about a third of the escalating cost of crude.
"I believe there needs to be a thorough and complete investigation of speculators to find out whether speculation has been going on and, if so, how much it has affected the price of a barrel of oil," Mr. McCain said in response to an audience member's complaint about investors driving up the price of fuel and other commodities. "There's a lot of things out there that need a lot more transparency and, consequently, oversight."

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity.
Frankly, McCain has plenty of both.
I recall a lot of folks wanting to get novices out of the speculation game. I don’t even come close to understanding it, but it seems the McCain wanting to look into it is a good move.
Welcome to the GooP nightmare.
Novices in the futures market last about as long as the proverbial snow ball in hell.
You don’t have to pass a stupid law to get them out. They die.
Broke.
Were it not for past obstruction to drilling and refining in the U.S. by libs/dems, and the likelihood of that obstruction continuing under the Marxist Obama or the Imbecile McCain, speculation would start going in the opposite direction: increasing supply would lead to speculation that the value of the commodity would DECREASE In the future. As it is now, the value of oil can only continue to go up, since demand is increasing but supply, particularly in and because of, the U.S., is going nowhere but down.
Unless McCain gets hit by a bus and we get an actual conservative, or even someone with one-tenth of a functioning brain cell in his or her head running in opposition to BHO, we are screwed.
I think this is one time when the dems can claim that their candidate is smarter than the Republican candidate, and they're right. McCain is a moron of incomprehensible magnitude.
I just heard Rush say the same thing I did......
Right on!!
>>Third, You always tout yourself as a “national security” candidate. News Flash, energy independence is a major factor in our national security.<<
You got that right. Also I believe that trillions going into China’s hands to use against us is another security issue that McCain or Obama would not have a clue about.
This tells me that he is easily manipulated by pushing his emotional buttons, and is therefore a poor prospect for the Presidency.
“Holding your nose with both hands? Thats child play. You must not really hate the guy. For some of us, the idea of voting for McCain is more akin to having a continual root canal operation over several days. For this reason, we aint going to do it.”
No, I do not hate McCain, just hate his liberal views on some issues. I do respect him for his service to our country and wish he would just retire and enjoy the rest of his life. For me it boils down to this. McCain would do less damage to our country and most likely will only serve four years as President. But if Obama wins in November we will most likly have him for eight years and the damage he would cause would take a very long time to undo, if ever.
