The Ugly Truth about Missing America Oil Finally Appears

Crude Mistake

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY Posted Friday, May 16, 2008

Energy: With the price of oil spiking above $127 a barrel, the search for scapegoats has begun. Some point to the Saudis, OPEC's No. 1 producer. Others blame the oil companies. We have a better candidate: Congress.

As President Bush traveled to Saudi Arabia to ask the House of Saud to open the oil spigots a bit wider, Congress showed once again how clueless it is when it comes to energy policy.

Underscoring its failure to grasp the nature of our current problems, the Senate Appropriations Committee on Friday refused to end its moratorium on oil shale development in Colorado.

"If we are really serious about reducing pain at the pump," Colorado's senior senator, Republican Wayne Allard, said, "this is a vote that would make a difference in people's lives." He's right.

But the shale proposal went down to defeat with Allard and 13 other Republican members in favor and 15 Democrats opposed. Once again, Democrats were on the wrong side, opting to keep oil in the ground and punish you with higher prices as a result.

This was no minor thing. Estimates put the amount of oil locked in shale in both Canada and the U.S. at more than 1 trillion barrels. Pulling out even a tenth of that would quadruple our current reserves.

This is the same Congress that refuses to allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which holds up to 20 billion barrels of crude, or offshore, where another 30 billion await.

Yep. When I was complaining about being called bitter, I can’t tell you how many people said “Well, we ARE bitter!” When I pointed out that bitter was a state of mind that you yourself choose, I was told that Bush made it impossible to choose - you had no choice but to be bitter.

And the stimulus check - I was just with a group of people who were anxiously awaiting theirs and trying to figure out if everyone would be included. When I pointed out that my friends who work 16 hour days wouldn’t be included, though they paid for it with tax dollars, everyone jumped my throat and said “Why should they get it? They don’t need it. WE DO.”

I’m in a sour politics mood this morning.

These facts will never be mentioned in any venue outside the new media. The mouthpiece of the rat party is the old media—this corrupt group will continue to undermine the Bush administration and representative government at every turn until the demise of Western Culture is complete.

It's quite clear to me that politicians have no interest whatsoever in increasing domestic oil supplies

But is it clear to you yet that our politicians no longer recognize the very concept of a domestic economy?

The problem is that we have built our country, our economy, our military, our alliances and strategic arrangements, our institutions of government, and our power elite and their sources of wealth based on, depending upon and ins support of the policy of "cheap oil." It was the founding of the Rockefeller fortune, and many a prominent US businessman or politician is connected with oil fortunes.

Well, demand has outpaced supply, as was foreseeable, and we have done everything in our power to ensure demand stays low.

There is a nuclear revitalization program, which George Bush, bless him, actually started all the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) . While a large part of the international community is enthusiastic and has signed on to the program, the US, which started it, is having a very difficult time getting its act together. The US policy has been perverted by bureaucrats and appointees who have their own ideas, incompetence and bunging, inability to explain to Congress what we are trying to do, end of term-itis, where political appointees just want to rest on their laurels (what laurels you may well ask) and do nothing, and the malfeasance of the US congress including Senator Craig (name sound familiar).

Here is a question you should hear being asked but will not of any Democrat

Democrat Congresscritter, Senator or Activist,

Two weeks ago the talking point being put out by your part to explain your opposition to any development of the USA’s own energy resources was that “We cannot drill our way out of this problem”

This week you Democrats are all claiming credit for “forcing OPEC to increase production”

Since, as you Democrats just claimed, increased production of Oil is the solution to high energy prices, why does your Party believe it is better for the USA to buy Oil from OPEC rather then produce it ourselves?

That should be the mantra - $4/gal thank a Democrat. We should be sweeping the Congress in November with this issue.

I meant to say we have done everything in our power to make sure that energy supply stays low [domestic supply to be precise]

Although I agree with almost all of the posts on this thread, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I have long complained of GW’s inability to communicate with the public regarding various serious matters; but the rest of the repub leadership (if I may exaggerate enough to call them leaders) has been totally cowardly, ineffective, inept and due the consequences they will justly get in November.

You can't put guts in someone who is born without them. So trying to goad them into action is useless. We will just have to go through the cycle of seeing them replaced by dims and then later the dims replaced by persons with the guts to fight.

One of the senators from my state, Dole, is a #1 example of the “go along to get along” wimp RINO'S. I will not vote for her.

There are a few RHINOs that need thanking. There is plenty of blame to go around for not drilling, but yes the lions share is the DNC.

Pray for W and Our Troops

The prices are not high enough. We deserve to pay $10.00 per gallon. That way, maybe the stupid American people will finally wake up.

We have a revolutionary spirit way down deep in our American souls and it could burn again, I truly believe, if our leaders abandon us.

Nahhhh... That revolutionary spirit was squashed out about a generation back. You can thank public schools and an every-expanding government "caretaker" system. The ultimate goal has to make the citizens more dependent on the government. I mean - look what this "stimulus" payment really represents - a power play. The average worker works at last 1/3 of the year just to pay taxes and nothing but taxes. So by "giving" us back some of that money (except for those who pay nothing at all who are getting a check too), government is showing that they will take what they want from us, and "give" us just what we need because the government knows best.

Add to that the Obama and Hillary plans to socialize medicine, and Obama's "birth-grave" childcare... It is all about just getting the masses to work and rely on the government for needs. It is the exact mantra of the Communists in the old Soviet Union. Karl Marx would be so proud of the US Government and the direction it is going...

We import over 5 million barrels of oil per day from OPEC - a US-hating organization.

Even if some of that oil is purchased under the market price... we can still figure at least $120 per barrel. That is $600MILLION per day we are sending to terrorist-supporting nations.

At the same time, the DemocRATS gripe about funding a war against terrorism. But they are A-OK with sending $600 million per day to OPEC.

Something isn’t right -

And the above figures do not include over 3 million barrels of other petroleum products imported from OPEC (I assume this would be refined gasoline and other fuels?)

I guess you missed out on learning about the oil in Alaska and the pipeline and also the very large developments from Canada and Mexico.

You are simply wrong. There was action but it was inadequate. Many of the programs touted today were developed in the late 70’s but oil production increased rapidly to the point they were no longer viable.

That is especially true of solar and wind. The wind projects today are the direct result of 70’s research.

We also had strong nuclear development but the Rats caved and killed it. Nuclear development is now well underway again.

Lastly, it was well demonstrated that the Republicans never controlled the Senate. They had a majority but not the magic 60 required for passage of cloture bills.

They’ll work to lower the prices AFTER the Republicans are out of power. A like a crybaby holding his breath.

The politicians are finding out what we will pay to get around. Cut the price of oil in half, and they’ll tax us back to the price we’re paying for gasoline now.
