  • Comic Batman reaches end of road (Don't want to know plot of "Batman RIP"? Stop reading now)

I read it. Thomas Wayne didn’t kill him. It’s just some guy claiming to be Thomas Wayne. The death of Bruce Wayne’s parents is one of the few things in comics that is actually considered to be canonical forever i.e. you can’t change it.

Grant Morrison, the writer, is a genius of sorts but I have a lot of mixed feelings on “Batman R.I.P.” I can tell you that one thing that people should read - even if they don’t like comic books - is his “All Star Superman” story which demonstrated the final year of Superman’s life. The chapter/issue in which Superman writes his Last Will and Testament is one of the best things I’ve ever read as it sums up his life perfectly - saving a kid about to commit suicide, flying a bus of disabled children over the pyramids in Egypt... Anyone who says comics are silly obviously hasn’t read that (or the Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman Strikes Back etc...).

Last night I actually couldn’t fall asleep because after mass the girlfriend and I heard “Silly Love Songs” on the radio and I wanted her to hear how awful Paul McCartney really is outside of the Beatles.

And then the song wouldn’t stop running through my head. I got four hours of sleep last night. If he’s going to release something from the vaults I hope it’s some kind of terrible monster that will save us from the tyranny of his solo catalog.

No, it doesn’t (at least based on what I know of the Hitler Youth).

And we CANNOT start comparing everything he does to Hitler. That is UNACCEPTABLE. THEY did that to us for eight years and it was as disgusting then as it will be if we do it. We cannot stoop to their level. Ever wonder why they could not win an election until they started running conservative democrats and fewer loose screws like Howard Dean? They stopped playing up the crazies!

Don’t become them. Don’t become them. Don’t become them. Don’t become them. Even if it doesn’t win an election, it will at least keep your soul free of that kind of stain.

If he *actually* turns into Hitler then call me...but this isn’t it AND WE WILL NOT WIN ANOTHER ELECTION IF WE START CALLING HIM THIS RIGHT OFF THE BAT.

Don’t become them. Don’t become them. Don’t become them.

Holy crap, I’ve been going through this site since you posted this link...If we can’t get a sound alternative plan to some of this then there is something definitely wrong with us. A lot of this is just a bunch of bad ideas. I don’t even mean “we disagree here and here” but rather “Oh, um, wow, this is actually a terrible idea” or then the occasional misdirection of facts to support their plans.

Seriously. We’ve got to get our act together.

I work in taxes. I have a MS in Accounting from a top tier business school. I’m flabbergasted at some of his tax ideas and how he words things. His campaign site wasn’t even this dumb on the issue.

Seriously. We’ve got to get our act together.

I have a question about this thing.

When you call, does your phone number get blocked in some way? I’m one of those wacky young ‘I only have a cell phone’ people and I’m reluctant to use my only phone number to use to call people that could harass me in return.

How does a typical phone call go? Is there a conversation of some kind or is it just “I hope we can count on your vote. Yes? Awesome. Go McCain” or “I hope we can count on your vote? No? Well, thank you anyway...” or is it more like “No? Well, thank you but my mother actually looks nothing like that...”

the storm was scary, tornadoes definitely hit down, there was rain and some hail...but I think it’s being blown out of proportion. My proof? Calling my mother back only to talk to my stepfather and hear my stepmother screaming in the background like a primitive, fearful that her skygod was going to destroy the village. When I talked to her, she couldn’t stop screaming out of panic for more than a few seconds.

So yeah, that’s my proof. Slow news day (it’s even on Drudge) in order to freak people out.

Oh and the reason she was screaming? There was hail in the front yard.

I could definitely be misnaming the offending program...but it's not just a pop-up as it "popped up" several times over the past few nights and not just when I was at Hugh's site. I've run both of those programs and it didn't seem to fix the problem as well as I'd like.

For now, though, I'm going to avoid Hugh's site for a few days in hopes this gets fixed.

Oh, FWIW: Vonage has apparently had to plead and plead that it doesn't advertise with Spyware and the like (or that it doesn't fund it) so I know that, on some level at least, I'm not crazy.

    A) I've got Firefox. I'm getting popups in a separate Firefox window and not just at Hugh's site. I believe it came from Hugh's site (again, if someone knows better than I do on this subject, feel free to correct me)

    B) Hugh's site is worth the trouble of closing a window. It's not worth the trouble of clicking it when you're not at Hugh's site.

    Worst. Typo. Ever.

Oh my gosh, I cannot believe how DUmb some of my fellow freepers are being. These bulbs save ridiculous amounts of energy, don't cost 8 dollars each, typically only take a few seconds (at most!) to light up if you get a semi-decent brand, help us become less dependent on the terrorist financiers who are trying to kill us, clean up the air by emitting less pollution and, the dumbest complaint of all: THEY PRODUCE THE SAME AMOUNT OF LIGHT THAT A NORMAL INCANDESCENT BULB PRODUCES.

Yes, it's not as "warm" but there are options you can get. I have two "red" and one "blue" CF light in my living room and a friend of mine who is a lighting designer told me that he was impressed I did that because it's closer to natural light.

Seriously, people, when did we start acting as dumb as the DUmmies? We've got a technological marvel in our hands and we're fighting about things using prices from 20 years ago!

If they burnt out after a day, you probably got a crappy bulb from a crappy brand. Get some GE's...they work wonders.

I will now await people calling me a DUmmy troll by looking at the invite my family received to Bush 41's inauguration...

Actually, the savings in the first month alone pay for CF bulbs. Your wallet will thank you almost immediately. I was trying everything I could to conserve some energy around my apartment so that I could save some cash and getting these bulbs slashed my electric bill by 30 bucks in the first month. 10 more the second, an additional 10 the next month and 20 dollars the month after that. I only have three lights that don't use them and it's more laziness than anything else that I haven't replaced those.

And 8 dollars? Go to Sams where they'll sell you 8-10 of them for 12 dollars total. Hell, Home Depot sells them for similar amounts.

Please, people...don't waste your time on this crap.

The Girlfriend, our friend and I went to the Texas State Fair because neither of them had gone. My sole reason for going was that I had heard the Fried Coke was sooooo good.

It has no taste whatsoever. As we got closer to the bottom, it began to make the girls sick because of the taste. It was like fried dough with cinnamon on it (but we're not sure if there was actual cinnamon or if it just tasted that way). I waited in line for ten minutes only to throw it away before finishing it.

What a waste...at least the funnel cake was good and my girlfriend was happy to have a memento in the form of a fakeo handwriting analysis. I guess that alone was worth the awful fried coke.
