Uncle’s funeral went well yesterday. American Legion did gun salute and Taps. Young army guys handled flag. And it was a beautiful Fall day in Milwaukee.

Turns out it was our local congressman staffer who got it done. His records were in whatever fire burned most of them up. But they had enough of his paperwork to give the go ahead. We got a letter, copy of the half burned file and a certificate with verification. The website dd214 also provided a colorized version of the partial record.

I don’t know yet. The Funeral home just said it was taken care of.

Thanks to everyone for advice on getting the honor guard for my husband’s uncle. He has left messages for everyone. Now we wait and see I guess. Funeral is Saturday so hopefully it works out. I’ll let you know.

Did that. It’s the Defense Department having the issues. We won’t have death certificates in time. They said obit might work. I would think the funeral home would have a clue how to deal with this but it seems we get to figure it out. Still have a day or 2.

I know my husband called the chapter his uncle was in but got the impression they only check messages once a week. We are still working away. My husband said we have 3 angles going after I blew my top earlier. Just important I think. He served in WWII also. Uncle was in WI so we are working long distance also.
