  • Britain: Referendum to be shelved

RIP, you won't be particularly missed. The irony is, the British aren't responsible for any of this. The French are! ^_^ Would have loved it to have been us to bury this corrupt European Union but I think this way has a more romantic justice about it.

What the world thinks of us? Quite frankly, who cares? Isn't this the type of meaningless tripe that is spewed out of the Guardian? The same rubbish tabloid that will lambast America on one day ask what American's think us the next? Hey while yer there, how about we find out what those saggy arsed bureaucrat's in Brussels think of us? Or the people in Timbuctu? The fact of the matter is that no country is particularly that popular anyway cus there's always gonner groups of people that hate yer no matter what. Askin em what they think is completely pointless since in the end it simply doesn't matter anyway.

"Call me cynical, but there's a very slight possibility this could be a publicity stunt."

Well I suppose in this day and age it always a possiblity but he's been like this for over a month. Bit extreme for a stunt me thinks. Plus all the mental health doctors that have probably looked him over would have noticed something amiss if he was pretending. Personally I think he isn't faking it, I just feel sorry for the poor fella, a bad situation to be in. I have to say it is a facsinating case, it'll be interesting to see if the doc's can come up with something concrete about his past instead of supposition.

As ever Jakarta, you wade through the bollocks and raise to the board the most important point, I couldn't agree more.

    Rest In Peace Mathew

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

I can't believe I actually have tears welling up...

Hope that UK soldier remembers it was those cowboys that kicked their butts out of this country.

I think you're being less than understanding considering he's just seen one of his mates blown straight back to Britain in a body-bag thanks to that pilot. Apparently all the pilot had to do was switch on his thermal-imaging display and he would have instantly recognised them as British. You carn't blame the English trooper for being upset over someone else's incompetence that ultimately led to a brave man's death.

Last night Jim Kelleher, chief clerk to the Royal Fusiliers Association, said: “No sane person would do this. It is a disgrace. I have family buried in France and if I could get my hands on whoever did this I’d bury them too.”

He said it best I think.

"As I tell all the young men that play soccer ... to "be respectful ... and ALWAYS remember, you may be the real players ... but it is the Ref's field, no matter how bad the call might be."

That's a damn good philosophy Mr. American-person. The attitude of your average English/European player towards the ref is a disgrace. It's also something our youths are apparently copying from, a worrying thing. If there's one thing we can from the Yanks in Footy it's civil politeness and decency on the pitch. In our matches no one respect the ref, even the fans don't like them. Keep reminding yourselves of that and you'll set a shining example for the rest of us, a team that learns respect is a winning team.

    "How's this for an alliance!"

Not entirely far-fetched actually. The UK did support the CSA during the Civil War, it may have been for economic reasons (what war isn't?) but the sentiment is still there. I know for a fact we supplied money and a good few ships for the Confederates.

    "aculeus, MadIvan,
What was the Question Time episode? I'm a little afraid to ask."

Urgh. Just don't ask, I watched it myself and it makes my lips form to a cringe everytime the thought enters my head. It was an utterly shameful, disgrace and pitiful scene to witness.
Basically Question Time is a programe where they collect together a group of people who are involved in politics or the observation of politics (media-types, polititions, ambassadors). Then they invite members of the public to come in and put question to this panel and hear their opinion. The particular episode we refer to was a horrific sham (shame). The BBC had managed to convince an ex-American Ambassador to Britain on the show to hear his opinion on the events following 11th September. All I will say is that my heart truely bled for the man.
The "audience", that was supposed be representative of the British public, was comprised almost entirely of Muslims and a spattering of white anti-American hangers-on, from the moment I first witnessed the "public" involved I just knew where this was going to go.
Needless to say the large amount of Muslims shouldn't have been there in the first place because there are percentage-wise nowhere near that many Muslims in this country. The whole thing was perfectly engineered by the BBC and at the end of it the lone American was looking quite ticked off and a bit dejected after having himself and country ripped to shreds by the jeering crowd. I thought he was going to get up and leave (rightly so) but he was one stubborn mother, at the end of it I felt proud of the man. He stuck to his guns and voiced not only his opinion but his disgust at the audiences yobbish and dismissive attitudes. I felt like giving the man a pat on the back. The audience were a bunch of bastards and so are the BBC for setting it up.

"In the case of Britain, it has not gone unnoticed across the Channel that 20 years of Thatcherism - and most of the EU considers Mr Blair the son of Thatcher - has allowed the country to resume its historic place as one of the wealthiest among nations, correcting the anomaly of the 1970s."

No matter what anyone thinks or says about this woman, she was a true god send for the British people. If not for her we would still be wallowing in the Labour-induced rut we had been stuck in. A girl with back-bone and good sense. We need more of her kind.

LOL, first laugh of the day, mate :) Well what can we do about a national stereotype (that really isn't true)? Whereas the US has lovely places such San Francsico? Maybe you lot should take manliness tips from us? ;)

Seriously though, it's like some American soldier said, can't recall the specifics but it went something like this: "When a Brit's effeminate, they're really effeminate but when a Brits tough, they're tough as nails".
Whether this is true or not I don't know, personally I'm pretty much Mr.Average.

"I wonder how the large Muslim population in the UK will respond when British troops actually enter combat. Hopefully there won't be any rioting."

Actually they've informed us that bad things will happen but I doubt the governments too concerned. They've already rioted once so the police will know what to do this time around. Whatever happens the likely thing is they will huff and puff but in the end they will have to accept it. After all what exactly is wrong with removing a dictator and instilling a proper, free democracy?

"What's wrong with your accent? Don't you sound like the Beatles? ;)"

It has been said that I sound like them yeah but for some reason the way I speak scouse is somewhat different, I'm from a different area of Liverpool. I heard about a woman from round my area who went to the US a while back and she said that the majority of Americans thought she was foreign and realised she was English only when informed otherwise. Believe me, our dialect can be a little difficult for foreigners to understand sometimes, even some of our fellow Englanders have a hard time understanding us :)
