(CNSNews.com) – A bill currently before the Senate would empower the Obama administration to nationalize the student lending industry, eliminating the federally subsidized private loans millions of university students rely on to finance their educations. The Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act – currently being considered by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee – would eliminate the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program. FFEL loans are federally subsidized and make up approximately 80 percent of the student lending industry.

60 Minutes just three minutes ago pushed the blatant lie of 90% of the drug cartel's machine guns come from the U.S. citizens. It is complete with pictures of M-60 belt fed GP machine guns, hand grenades, etc etc. Not a peep on the origin of the select fire weapons coming from Mexican army defectors and the huge increase of State Department approval of sales of those very same M16's to Mexico. Just the usual pack of lies, it our fault `cause American are evil enough to actually but the dope THEY smuggle into the U.S. I included the link...

. Legendary oil man T. Boone Pickens says that if the U.S. doesn’t take major steps to curb its reliance on foreign oil, the consequences will be drastic. “Let’s say in 10 years, you do nothing,” Pickens tells Fortune. “You will be importing 75 percent of your oil (up from 68 percent now), and you’ll be paying $300 a barrel.” .

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's budget blueprint Thursday canceled plans to extend the border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border beyond the 670 miles already completed or planned, symbolically breaking with a much-heralded approach to border security advocated by President George W. Bush. The Obama administration's turnabout left limited funds for roads, lights and so-called tactical infrastructure – but not a dime to extend the pedestrian fencing and vehicle barriers erected along roughly one-third of the nation's 1,947 mile border with Mexico. As a Democratic senator representing Illinois, Obama joined 79 other senators in 2006 to support construction of the barrier...

. Obama said that U.S. demand fuels the drug trafficking that plagues communities on both sides of the border, and he vowed that the United States would work harder to reduce drug use among its citizens. He announced that, in addition to the appointment of a new border czar and tough new financial penalties against three Mexican drug cartels, he would push the U.S. Senate to approve a long-delayed inter-American treaty to curb regional weapons trafficking. The treaty, known by its Spanish acronym, SIFTA, was signed by the United States in 1997 but not ratified by Congress, and its passage...

The Group of 20 should be replaced by a new Global Economic Council, an advisory panel of senior international economists has said. Under the panel’s proposals, the council, which would be a United Nations body, would become the main forum for setting the agenda for worldwide economic and financial policy. The proposal, made by an 18-member UN commission headed by Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel-prizewinning economist, will be raised at next week’s expanded G20 summit in London, at which heads of state will debate a global response to the world financial crisis. It is part of a draft 10-point plan put...

Resurrection Of Economic Idiocy Lyndon Johnson’s Un-Great Society and Roosevelt’s depression era social programs did not solve the problems they purported to address. Rather, they extended the pain and suffering of their programs’ victims and worst of all taught them to belly-up to the taxpayer trough forever. We are saddled with generations of uneducated losers, who have sunk their collective psyche into a myriad of social problems passed down repeatedly from indigent lazy parents who learned from their parents. The latest version of this socialism-destruction designed and being implemented by the Obama team of adult children, will in our view...

August 27, 2006 Ever since the BUSH White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued its Mid-Session Review last month, the administration has been doing cartwheels celebrating the fact that the budget deficit for fiscal 2006, which ends on Sept. 30, 2006, will be less than $300 billion. After the administration projected a 2006 deficit of $296 billion last month, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently estimated that the 2006 deficit would be $260 billion. Compared to recent deficits of $377 billion (2003), $413 billion (2004) and $318 billion (2005), a deficit of $260 billion does represent some...

VIENNA - Surging crude inventories and investor skepticism over the U.S. stimulus package dragged oil prices below $36 ($35) per barrel Thursday. Investors seemed more wary than relieved after U.S. lawmakers finally agreed overnight to a $790 billion stimulus bill designed to pull the economy out of recession.

A Beverly Hills-based company is being examined by a federal grand jury looking into contributions the firm made to political committees formed by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson. The grand jury apparently is investigating if the contributions that CDR Financial Products made had any impact on a New Mexico government contract that CDR landed from the state. According to reports, CDR received $1.48 million in 2004-05 for work done through the New Mexico Finance Authority. The authority is a government agency that issues bonds and finances building and public works projects throughout New Mexico. CDR was involved in helping put...

ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A statement by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., makes it more likely the Senate could intervene in a Minnesota election, an analyst says. The Minnesota U.S. Senate contest between incumbent Republican Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger Al Franken is undergoing a recount, with the candidates separated by less than 300 votes out of 2.9 million cast. But a controversial decision by the state's Elections Canvassing Board could end up throwing the election into the lap of the Senate itself, a scholar told Minnesota Public Radio. "Ultimately, the Senate has complete authority...

The spokesman for Mr Mugabe's Zanu-PF said the party, after lengthy talks to try to end a post-election crisis, wants any unity government to last five years. GORI, Georgia (Reuters) - Georgia called for a ceasefire on Saturday after Russian bombers widened an offensive to force back Georgian troops seeking control over the breakaway region of South Ossetia. President George W. Bush said Russian attacks on Georgia marked a "dangerous escalation" of the crisis and urged Moscow to halt the bombing immediately. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told Bush the only solution was for Georgian troops to quit the conflict zone. Russia said it had seized the rebel capital, Tskhinvali, but Georgia denied the claim on the second day of fighting that threatens oil and gas pipelines seen...
