Huh. If some people would get over their case of the vapors, he was making an interesting point. I’ve seen this discussed very little, but I suspect the yute camp was really the primary target. ABB was intentionally trying to take out the next generation of the Ruling Class. That line of thinking leads down some dark roads, but it has to be considered when looking at his motivations.
But the amount of, well, bleeding that occurs in a complicated birth makes a head wound bleed look like a scrape. It is quickly life threatening.
Very much so, thanks for saying it. Without getting too graphic, everything was fine with our delivery right until the very end, when things got tore up real bad. I damn near passed out from seeing all of the bleeding. The OB had to immediately call in a team with another MD and about 5 other nurses. Had they not immediately sprung into action, I have no doubt that my wife would have been in serious danger. It was then that it really sunk into me why the mortality rate from childbirth was so high before modern medicine.

"Our client was in a no win situation," says Lockert. "If he obeys the officers' commands and tries to comply, he's kicked and beaten and tazed. If he doesn't move, he's hit and beaten and tazed."

Huh. For years we’ve had a Yard Debris can. It’s a big green bin and it’s “free” (price included with garbage pickup). They get it every other week, which works pretty well. If I have a ton crap to haul away, there’s a local place that will take it for about $16/pickup load.

conformity rather than independence, competition rather than collaboration, regurgitation rather than learning and theory rather than application
As a fairly recent college grad, I would agree with everything but the second clause. Collaboration and "teamwork" is the name of the game in a lot of courses. Of course, meaning that the slackers profit from the hard work of the good students. At least that prepares you for real life.
