In 1958 the Church wrote in its “Communism and the Church in China” encyclical about the Chinese Patriotic Association. “For under an appearance of patriotism, which in reality is just a fraud, this association aims primarily at making Catholics gradually embrace the tenets of atheistic materialism, by which God Himself is denied and religious principles are rejected.”
China believes they can suppress anything they don’t agree with by use of fear and law. However, fear, as St. Thomas Aquinas said, “is a weak foundation; for those who are subdued by fear would, should an occasion arise in which they might hope for immunity, rise more eagerly against their rulers, in proportion to the previous extent of their restraint through fear.”
The truth will always come out no matter how hard Communists try to deny it.
Hong Kong has already a China imposed National Security Law imposed upon them which is used by the local government to persecute their enemies and to suppress dissent.
Now they are working on a local version which will suppress even more free thought. They claim that various human rights are protected but they never mention religion as either a human right or even being protected.
Churches in Hong Kong are slowly bowing down to China. There are very few that still promote the truth. We will have to wait and pray for the future.
Ransom Stoddard (JAMES STEWART): You’re not going to use the story, Mr. Scott?
Maxwell Scott (CARLETON YOUNG): No, sir. This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.”
