KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Col. James Johnson, convicted of fraud, bigamy, and conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman, was sentenced Thursday to a reprimand and a $300,000 fine. The court-martial panel also imposed a sentence of five years’ confinement if Johnson, the former commander of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, fails to pay the fine. CYNTHIANA, Ky. -- Police say a northern Kentucky woman took matters into her own hands, by shooting her husband in the crotch after she found out he was cheating on her. According to authorities, 39-year-old Kerrie Alvarez shot her husband, Javier, while they were standing outside the couple's home, after someone called reporting loud arguing. “We seen them take somebody out on a stretcher. She was always nice when I've talked to her. I would never expect her to do something like this,” said witness Carolina Honeycutt. Police arrested Alvarez.

An Afghanistan war veteran is in trouble for giving a political speech while in uniform at a caucus night rally with Ron Paul on Tuesday in Iowa. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Army Reserve told TPM on Wednesday that Cpl. Jesse Thorsen may have violated military policy when he wore his fatigues on stage and praised the Texas congressman’s presidential bid. Patrons at a Cheyenne Starbucks got more than a shot of espresso Monday morning, when a gun inside a girl’s purse fired inadvertently. Though several people were reported to being inside the coffee shop at the time, there were no injuries. A little vanity post here. My son-in-law got a 6 pointer this morning during the early Kentucky archery season. I think this is 4 years in a row he has gotten a deer during the early archery season. Last year it was a 9 point.

Took my son-in-law to the airport in Nashville for his return trip to Afghanistan. My daughter and I got gate passes to see him off. When we got to the TSA security point I was selected to go thru the millimeter wave xray. I told the screener that I did not want to go thru it. Platte County Law Enforcement responded to a 911 emergency call of shots being fired in the 700 block of Oak Street in Wheatland at approximately 5:54 pm on Thursday, July 7. The Wheatland Police Department and Platte County Sheriff’s Deputies immediately went to the subject residence. A Rineyville man died Wednesday from a gunshot wound received during what police describe as an attempted invasion of a Sun & Fun mobile home park residence Tuesday night. Kentucky State Police at Elizabethtown’s Post 4 say 18-year-old Kevin Scott Puckett was crawling through a window at the home of Loretta Hawkins at 180 Tomahawk Trail. Hawkins fired a handgun at Puckett at about 7 p.m. Tuesday. On Aug. 26, Fort Knox hosted the first of many community events in the area that honored Vietnam veterans and gave them the warm welcome home they deserved—but few received—from 1964 to 1975. Approximately 1,000 veterans turned out and were greeted by 2,500 flag-waving, sign-holding, cheering Soldiers, family members, civilian employees, and contractors who lined the route that the Vietnam veterans’ convoy of buses and motorcycles took to Brooks Parade Field for the 10 a.m. ceremony. Sixty years after North Koreans executed Corporal Harry James Reeve, he received a proper burial. An array of veterans groups and media crews were among those who attended his Radcliff funeral, which included full military honors. Also at the Wednesday service were Reeve’s two cousins who supplied DNA to identify his remains. Reeve, of Philadelphia, died at 18 when he and several others from the U.S. Army’s 8th Cavalry Regiment were shot by a firing squad during the war.
