Scientists urge 'academic freedom' to teach both sides of issue Posted: March 24, 2002 1:00 a.m. Eastern By Julie Foster © 2002 WorldNetDaily.com In an effort to influence high-school science curriculum standards, more than 50 Ohio scientists issued a statement this week supporting academic freedom to teach arguments for and against Darwin's theory of evolution. Released Wednesday, the statement was signed by 52 experts from a wide range of scientific disciplines, including entomology, toxicology, nuclear chemistry, engineering biochemistry and medicine. Some are employed in business, industry and research, but most teach at state and private universities. A third of the...

Yesterday, Senator Majority Leader Tom Daschle suggested that we might not win the war on terrorism. We've had some success, the Senator said, but if we don't get bin Laden, we will have failed and we don't have bin Laden. Republicans were outraged. One implied that Daschle was unpatriotic. Another called his remarks disgusting. Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott wanted to know how Daschle could dare to question a president while the country was at war. In their outrage, Republicans have missed the point. Daschle is not unpatriotic to focus on capturing bin Laden. It's worse than that. He's wrong....

© 2002 WorldNetDaily.com Before I say anything, let me be crystal clear about a few matters: One: I'm a First Amendment addict. People have the right to say whatever they want, whenever they want. That's what separates this country from just about any other. Two: It's not only the right, but also the duty for politicians from opposing parties to criticize "the other guys." This includes not only matters of peace but also matters of war. And if anybody thinks that's unpatriotic, let me remind you that during World War II, then Sen. Harry S. Truman held hearings that raked ...

A group of scientists in the US and the UK says the accepted wisdom on climate change remains unproved. They say rising greenhouse gas emissions may not be the main factor in global warming. They argue that temperature rise projections this century are "unknown and unknowable". They claim it is "a media myth" to suppose that only a few scientists share their scepticism. The scientists, a group convened by the American George C. Marshall Institute, first published their report in the US. 'Political conclusions' It has been republished in the UK by the European Science and Environment Forum (Esef), entitled ...

Customer service appears to have disappeared from our culture as two separate companies, this week, have demonstrated so well. Last Friday I purchased (on-line) some RAMBUS memory from BestBuy.com and had it shipped 2nd day. The memory just arrived and here it is Thursday, 6 days later. Granted we had a weekend in there, but the memory *should* have arrived on Monday. So on Monday I called BestBuy's customer service, or customer no-service as Clark Howard calls it. They said the memory didn't ship until Monday morning but I'd have it no later than Wednesday. When it didn't arrive on ...
