[history]
A homeowner shot and killed a man Monday night during an attempted home-invasion robbery in northwest Modesto, police said.
The shooting happened at about 7 p.m. shortly after two armed men broke into a house in the 1900 block of Debonaire Drive, police spokesman Doug Ridenour said.

Good thing that California banned those evil "assault rifles", so that the bad guys don't have access to them....

Highly irresponsible behavior on the part of the home owner. Doesn't he know you only have to call 911, and the police will be there in seconds?

Where's the stash!Right here! Boom
Oh sh*t!
Description: wearing black trousers with brown stain.

Much as I love to hear about homeowners defending themselves this one sounds a little fishy. They bust in looking for the stash. The homeowner happens to have a loaded shotgun handy where it can be grabbed and used while under the watchful eye of an armed intruder. Then the police find some marijuana in the house later. Don't believe this was Joe and Mabel Sixpack watching Lawrence Welk.

There's more to this than meets the eye, I think.
These punks seemed to know what they were looking for. The old couple may be dealing drugs from there, or have a son who was doing that.
Just seems odd that the guys would ask for 'the stash', and not money or anything else.

Good point.

The husband later told police he heard his wife screaming and yelling from a back room. At some point, he got a chance to grab his shotgun, which was nearby, Ridenour said.
The Moral is, always have a loaded shotgun nearby. :) (don't sell dope either and these lowlifes won't come looking for it)

He fired one blast that hit one of the intruders in the throat, Ridenour said. The man, described as being in his 20s, was pronounced dead by the first paramedics who arrived. Gosh! I hope so.! What gauge was shotgun?

Still, though. It was their home. If they sold drugs that was an issue between them and the government. Doesn't give some thug the right to come busting in and steal their property (drugs though it might be). The dead one got what he deserved.

You might be surprised how fast I can find a loaded pistol next to my easy chair.

You might be surprised how fast I can find a loaded pistol next to my easy chair. Same here, but you won't find a stash of marijuana in my place either.

This is from the newest article
"DeCuir's friends had trouble believing what had happened.
"What he did was wrong," said Latoya Sheppard, a 19-year-old Modesto resident who knew DeCuir five years. "I don't know what he was thinking, but he genuinely was a good person. He always made everybody around him feel good."

Same here, but you won't find a stash of marijuana in my place either. But, they didn't find a stash:
"Ridenour said investigators had found a small amount of marijuana in the house, but said "at this point there's nothing to lead us to believe they're anything but innocent homeowners." "
Given the type of people who busted in, it could well have been dropped by the intruders. Given the financial incentives of the police to find such stuff in houses, it's sometimes dropped by the police, too. Such is the nature of the War on (some) Drugs. If one could get it at the local Walgreens, there would be fewer home invasion robberies. But hey, we need home invasion robberies if they can help us ban AK-47s, right?
