  • Zionism

Jewish Post ^ | DR. YOAV TENEMBAUM
Fifty years ago World War II came to an end, and Winston Churchill's Conservative Government lost heavily in the polls. Forty years ago Winston Churchill resigned after having served for the second time as Prime Minister. And thirty years ago Winston Churchill died. Much has been written on Churchill's attitude towards the Jews and the Zionist movement prior to the establishment of the State of Israel. But not much is widely known on Churchill's attitude towards Zionism and the State of Israel after 1948. Referring to the years prior to the creation of the Jewish state, the historian Bernard Wasserstein...
  • Martin thumbs nose at NDP threat.

OTTAWA (CP) - Prime Minister Paul Martin has declared himself ready to jettison his NDP lifeline, seemingly confident that the opposition parties won't risk trying to sink him with a Christmas election. Martin said Tuesday that he won't revise a medicare proposal he gave to NDP Leader Jack Layton last week. Layton rejected the proposal as too weak and said he would no longer prop up the fragile minority Liberal government. But he stopped short of threatening to bring it down, saying he would wait to see what else the Liberals were willing to do. He didn't have to wait...

I'm interested in picking up some of the movies from the 2004 festival - Relentless, MMHates America, Celsius 41.11. Is there one place I can get them all? I searched Barnes & Noble to no avail. I want to avoid ordering each individually and paying more shipping than I need. Also, can anyone critique either of these movies for me?

INTRO RICHARD CARLETON: In the eyes of the Green movement, Bjorn Lomborg is the man who sold them out. Now, what makes the Greens so angry and Lomborg so dangerous is that he was once one of them, a passionate believer in Green views, until, he says, he found they were wrong — yes, wrong. This brilliant young university professor then produced an explosive book exposing what he calls "the great Green lie". STORY RICHARD CARLETON: The first thing you notice about Bjorn Lomborg is that he's young, smart and for someone who's almost universally despised, he's a very nice...

I am not a presbyterian, so I am curious about this. Is there a presbyterian church in America that truly follows the articles of faith handed down from the days of the English Civil War. What I am trying to say delicately, is it only the PCUSA that has taken the evil decision to divest from Israel. Are there some real protestant presbyterian churches in America?
  • Fighting Franco

I know this may be a sensitive topic. I am trying to be open minded because I don't understand why Canadian, Americans and Brits fought alongside Communists against Franco in Spain. Franco may have been little better than the Communists, but he was at least better. Were these volunteers who fought against Franco plainly ignorant that they were fighting for the Comintern? Or were they men of their age - an age where Communism was an acceptable or at least trendy belief?
  • The Real Oliver Cromwell

    10/21/2005 10:56:59 AM PDT · by Sam Gamgee · 23 replies · 914+ views
It seems to a modern consensus that Oliver Cromwell was a puritanical tyrant, no better than the king he replaced? I’m wondering if this has always been the view on Cromwell, or is it just a modern liberal revision of history? What was Cromwell’s real legacy? Part of me wonders if Cromwell has been vilified unfairly by the left in much the same way Franco has been. (A person I believe was saving his nation from International Communism – which for shame some of my countrymen fought alongside) One of the problems that faced the parliamentarians once the king was...

I am sure this was discussed long ago, but I tried to read this book. I had to eventually take it back to the library because Clarke basically thought Clinton did everything right about the war on terror and Bush - both Bushes - did everything it wrong. It was just far to biased. Should I have finished it? What is Clarke's story? Is it true that the CIA has a row with the Bush Administration over Middle East policy?

Just finished off a history of the Scottish nation and the Scotish Enlightenment. In the early 1900s the Liberal Party of Britian basically came to an end. This was the party of the Scottish and English enlightenment - the defenders of the principles of individualism and self-reliance. The Tories were generally the protectors of the old ways. Just wondering how the transition came about that the Tories then became the prime defenders of capitalism and self-reliance?
  • Poll: almost half of Canadians want oil industry nationalized

The Canadian Press said Monday a Leger poll suggested 49 per cent of respondents want petroleum resources nationalized while 43 per cent said they would like to see the same fate for gas companies. Quebec City Aug. 31, 2005. (CP PHOTO/ Clement Allard) The Leger Marketing telephone survey of 1,500 people was conducted between Aug. 24 and Aug. 31, much of it before the major effects of Hurricane Katrina were felt. Canadian gasoline prices jumped about 25 cents a litre since the storm hit the U.S. Gulf Coast a week ago Monday. Quebecers were the strongest supporters of resource nationalization...

This series is new to us here in Canada. I'm not sure if its been playing in the US for some time, but I watched to first episide last night. It made me think how tough this war on terror is and will continue to be. This is just the beginning. Yet many want the American forces to cut and run out of Iraq. That would be the worst possible thing to do. The soldiers of course will always do their job. But they don't need those in the public and government to get weak knees. Those of us who...

Just wondering how conservative Americans view Canada. I see it as a nation that just turned the corner to dictatorship. There is no possible way a conservative government will win an election in this nation - ever. The Liberals have proven to be absolutely corrupt, yet Canadians are determined to give them another chance. Consider also that the Canadian government funds, promotes, and staffs its own television and radio network. This isn't like NPR which is only funded by the US government, but entirely independent in its programming. CBC programming is controlled by the Liberal cabinet through the lackeys it...

Edgar: Jesus' priorities, not politics, guide NCC peace, anti-poverty and eco-justice programs August 9, 2005, Washington – In remarks today at the Progressive National Baptist Convention’s (PNBC) 44th Annual Session in Detroit, the Rev. Dr. Bob Edgar, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches USA, told the gathering of Baptist pastors, ministers and lay leaders that it is the priorities and commandments of Christ rather than partisan politics that leads the NCC to advocate for peace, ending poverty and protecting God’s creation. “There are those who try to dilute our witness and mislead our friends by suggesting that the...
  • Notes About My Appearance on The Al Franken Show

This day, Tues. Aug 2 at 1:30 , was my first TV show appearance. While we may not agree on everything, Mr. Franken was polite, very supportive yet firm, let me talk, and overall, it was a great segment. I'd gladly do it again and am eager to. Just a few notes I wanted to say. Al and I disagreed on the number of inspectors that were working to disarm Saddam. He said 1000, I said 108. This, to me, is irrelevant as (and I am kicking myself for not mentioning this) thousands of objects undeclared to the UN have...
  • Softwood Lumber

I’m hoping to have a polite discussion about an issue I am no longer certain about my position on. Just so you all know, I am a Canadian – though not a proud one. The issue is the softwood lumber debate. My position was not established out of anti-Americanism but out of suspicion of a part of the American political process – lobbies. My position was that the Canada does not subsidize its lumber. The problem is the lumber lobby, which is very powerful and influences the Commerce Department. Maybe as a Canadian I have the wrong idea what lobbying...
  • Is International Communism undefeated?

I just finished reading Socialism by Ludwig Von Mises. Now, I don’t agree 100% with Von Mises – for one, he seems to have a bone to pick with religion. But one of his observations is that quite early on even Stalin came to admit that Communism will never defeat Capitalism on the battlefront. I don’t know if I totally agree with that. It seems to me by the early 1980s, Soviet Russia outnumbered US tank divisions 3 to 1, and its air force was twice the American size. Both its conventional forces and nuclear capability far exceeded what the...
  • Fad Christianity

    08/25/2005 3:21:00 PM PDT · by Sam Gamgee · 32 replies · 312+ views
I was just thinking how some Christians are too quick to embrace what are essentially secular movements. Historical revisionists like to tell us the gospel supports the ideals of socialism. Yet in reality socialism was never a part of historical Christianity. It only became a part of it in the 1920 and 1930s, when socialism was popular with everyone in the United States - and the world. Same with pacifism. Christ never promised the incomplete peace the way man defines peace. Pacifism was a new movement latched onto by some Christians in the Vietnam era. So is the current anti-semitic...
  • Did Hitler attack the Church?

I find it curious that we hear so much about Stalin's warfare against religion - to the extent he had Orthodox Churches demolished? But why didn't Hitler attack the Church? Is the German Church guilty of sitting idly by while Hitler massacred Poles and Jews - and said nothing? Hitler was in no way a Christian - he embraced the occult.
  • Get Out of Putin’s Face

Putin today leads a nation with a horrific history to confront—the truth of 70 years of Leninism and Stalinism—as his nation undergoes an existential crisis. At a time like this, why are we meddling in the internal affairs of neighboring states to dump over Putin’s allies? Why are we building bases in former Soviet republics? Is there some threat there to the United States? Why are we in Putin’s face about Russia’s failure to measure up to Iowa’s standards of democracy? Making Russia a friend was Reagan’s great legacy. But you do not keep a friend by constantly reminding him...
