In my platoon, during my time there, we were much more concerned about keeping each other alive than we were over stupid semantics.

Thank your father for his service and Semper Fidelis. I’m glad I didn’t serve with him, kicking your kids ass for something he had not heard since boot camp is not the kind of man I want on my team. No disrespect to him, I don’t think we would get along.

some research on my part reveals that you are entirely correct. I don’t know why, after all of these years I have assumed AR meant automatic rifle.

    I stand corrected.

The “AR” designates automatic rifle. Don’t believe everything you read on wiki.

After using a 6.8 SPC upper on my M4 I can tell you this, I now understand why they call this round the “200 yard sledgehammer”.

It hasn’t got a whole lotta’ ass after 300 yds, but up to that point, anything it hits is DRT. That’s dead right there for the uninitiated.

Let us all be grateful that the creep in Colo. did not have this upper on his AR.

Also, let us be grateful that he knew nothing of actual combat otherwise he would have ditched that stupid 100 round mag for a half a dozen 30 round clips. They would have given him more firepower and almost no danger of jamming. If one were to fire 100 rounds through an M4 without stopping, the barrel would most likely fail before you got to 100.

As a bonus, if he knew anything about close quarter combat, he would have known that a dozen or so loaded clips carried in a load bearing vest would have provided him much more protection from incoming rounds than that hoakie looking Halloween costume he had on. I think that he was more concerned about looking more like Batman than actually stopping any fire coming his way.

Besides, he knew that everyone in that theater was unarmed and helpless. Let us all thank God that he wasn’t all that smart.

Wait just a minute...assault weapons are illegal for the general public to own now. So are bullet proof vests, one is required to show a military ID or LEO ID before you can buy the plates that make it work.

Clips and ammo are red herrings. I call your attention to the 100 round drum that the kid had on his AR, it jammed as this mag is very prone to do. It really didn’t do anywhere near the damage he apparently hoped for.

Ammo is heavy. The 6,500 rounds that he had cached in his apartment had no bearing whatsoever in the actual shooting. I can’t be sure how much 6,500 rounds would weigh, but I know how heavy 400 rounds of 7.62x51 in an ammo can is. I can carry 4 of them, but not very far.

I completely agree that the gun laws in this country are in need of review. Such as the law permitting this theater to deny it’s patrons their ability to defend themselves from a maniac that the management was unable to prevent from entering the theater.

Has anyone else noticed that these mass shootings only occur in places where guns are forbidden? Like this theater, like the gun free zone at Columbine, like Ft. Hood where soldiers are forbidden from possessing a firearm on base. You never hear of a police station being shot up. Have you ever heard of anyone cutting loose at a gun club? Or how about a bar or restaurant now that we can carry in those places, would you really want to step into an area where you didn’t know who had a gun and who didn’t if you were determined to kill everyone in the place?

No, they want their victims safely disarmed so as not to disturb their rampage. Heaven forbid that somebody might just start shooting back. They could get hurt.

I read somewhere that a maximum of 2% of our population might, I repeat, might have homo tendencies.

How does 2% of a population raise so much fuss that they are granted a special privilege and protection requiring that the rest of us, 98% of our population, fall in line behind them.

To hear the media tell it, a body would think that every other person they met was gay. Our Republic is lost. I am grateful that I am now old and some of my health issues will no doubt take me soon.

We had gay people around when I was young, though not many. We all knew who they were, they kept to themselves and we left them alone. What happened?

This November, I will be voting for a Democrat for the first time in my memory. I don’t know who his opponent is, but whoever is running against Cantor is getting my vote.

I figure that it will be easier to fire the Dem. in two years than it will be to get rid of Cantor after he has two more years to dig his trench a little deeper.

Cops make mistakes all the time.

There is a local cop in a town near here who is on trial right now for blowing a lady’s head off as she sat in the drivers seat of her car. She wasn’t armed, she wasn’t doing anything wrong, she didn’t appear to pose any threat to the officer. He shot her several times with his service pistol in the head at close range. He made a mistake.

I understand that the officer had recently returned from duty overseas. There has been some discussion that PTSD may have had some influence. Still, he made a mistake.

If you choose to keep a firearm in your home, and I have lots and lots of them, you should be aware of your responsibility in the way those weapons are used and stored.

If you shoot someone on your property, you better have a really good, iron clad, reason for doing so. If you kill them, you will still be investigated for the shooting. All of your firearms will be confiscated, not just the one involved, until the inquest is over. The law will toss the rest of your house while they are at it, just to make sure. You will probably get most of your guns back, someday.

If you don’t kill the person you shot at, all of the above is still going to happen except now you are going to be sued to the extent that a cardboard box beside a dumpster somewhere will look pretty good in the near future.

If you shoot and kill what you were certain was a burglar and it turns out to be your drunk brother-in-law, you are going to jail. You must be able to ID your target BEFORE you use deadly force. Those aren’t just noble sounding words, it’s the law.

I don’t want to live next door to anyone who starts blazing away with a .357 Magnum. I own two of them currently and I will attest to the power of this cartridge. It has the velocity and energy to penetrate the outside walls of the shooter’s house as well as those of the neighbor’s.

I will be happy to do whatever I can to try to get this lady’s gun gun back for her under the condition that she trade it to me for a 20 gauge, single barreled shotgun and a lifetime supply of self defense shells which won’t take out the burglar, the cat, and the neighbor sitting in his kitchen.

That way, the next time a stupid cop tries to break in her door without announcing himself, he won’t walk away so lucky.
