As I am not a commercial shellfish grower, all I can go on is what I've been told by those that are. Yes, commercial beds are exempt, as they were seeded and maintained by the owner ( or lease holder). Indians are only allowed 1/2 the shellfish on natural, unimproved, unmaintained beaches. As you well know, these days there just isn't any of those, at least any that have commercially viable levels of shellfish. I have gotten to know some members of the Puyallup tribe that dive for goeducks. There is some very serious money in that, much more than is gillnetting for salmon. The very best of them ( and being underwater hooked up to a hookah and a tube to blow out the ducks, in 42degree water is hard work) where making 100k + a year. Most of them had real half assed operations though.

Your post was rather heated, and poorly written. What's a racial gob?

"My wife worked as a forester, her job was tree planting. She spent most of her life as a civiculturist but quit in disgust over what forestry has become, a sensitivity training racial gob quota homosexual hang out. They spent as much time being trained sexualy as they got to spend in the forest actualy planting trees. < /her sarcasm >

Treeplanting is the very lowest rung of forestry work. It used to be the domain of hippie types in the 70's and early 80's. Now it is entirely immigrant, mostly Mexican, mostly illegal. In my time working in the woods, setting chokers and cedar salvage (mid 70's), outside Quilcene, I never ran across any homosexuals, or any sex of any kind. Just miserable kickass hard work, that didn't pay that well. '

The Boldt decision was not given to us by the 9th Circuit Court, but by George Boldt, a Federal Judge in Seattle ( and a Republican appointed by Nixon.) The 9th, as well as the Supreme Court upheld Boldt's ruling that the tribes were entitled to 1/2 the harvest of fish and shellfish. He took everyone involved in the case, including the tribes, totally by suprise by interpreting the words of the treaty "to share in common" to mean that the Indians get half the harvest. I have been a "non-treaty" (translates as non indian) fisherman for most of my life, but got out of Puget Sound 20 years ago. Also, the 9th did not give us the Spotted Owl decicion, Judge Dwyer, a democrat, did that. As for families of cambodians being given a free pass, that's news to me. I live on the waterfront, own additional waterfront with shellfish on it, and have several friends in the clam and oyster raising business on Hood Canal. We are not plagued with Cambodians, or Indians. The shellfish ruling has been a non issue for us. Have you ever harvested clams or oysters on a commercial level? It's god awfull work, usually done at night during low tide. Without coming across as racist, it's not the sort of thing your average tribe member is going to want to do, when they have much better access to income through Goeducks, casino payouts, or Salmon fishing.

Both Apple and Microsoft are vehemently anti smoking companies. I spent about $2200 today at Lowes for my business. If anyone here think that Home Depot is some great alternative for conservatives, check out their web site, its full of blather about promoting cultural divesity, enviromental awareness, etc.

This is the first thing that came up on a goggle search:http://www.greenpartyus.org/press/pr_08_10_01.html
I remember there was a big stink here because not only was the Republican Party funding a Green Party candidate, but the GOP actually got someone to pose as a greenie and run on the green ticket to hurt the dems. If you read the green press release, there certainly seems no love lost there toward the democrats.

"What about the Freeport mines!" The Freeport mines are in a remote area of Irian Jaya, the western half of New Guinea, and the Javanese shouldn't be there to begin with. The Irian Jayans are melanasians, and primarily animists, and/or Christian (very heavy missionary presence in the back country). In my time in Jayapura, I don't even recall hearing or seeing Mosques, though I assume they are there.

I fought in VN in 68-69, and have been back twice since, most recently in 1990. I have travelled extensively, both with and without my family through out Indonesia. Let me tell you, if I had to pick a place to fight, it would be VN, not Indonesia. The only advantage fighting in Indonesia would have is that Bahasa Indonesian is a very easy language to pick up, unlike the tonal Vietnamese. The terrain in much of Indonesia is worse than almost anything in Viet Nam, much of the country straddles the equator, so its bloody hot, and the Indonesians are a clever and ruthless adversary, just ask the Dutch. Also they have almost 235 million people. We would be there for decades, and would lose in the end.

"In Maluku's provincial capital of Ambon, 700 Laskar Jihad members left the island on a ship on Tuesday. "
This is wonderful news for the people of Ambon. Maybe now the bloodshed can abate. We spent quite a bit of time in the Malukus, and if anything, found Ambon, a majority of whose residents are Christian, so placid and comfortable as to be almost boring. A lovely people and an absolutely beautiful place, what a damn shame that they have been subjected to this vilence.

I assume you are most careful not to buy any goods made in China, or do business with companies that do business there,(Like boeing, microsoft, fox, disney, ford, gmc etc). After all, the estimated 1,000,000 murdered Tibetans, the forced sterializations and abortions, the prison camps etc. dwarf any of Castro's evils. Oh, and you are walking everywhere and avoiding using any oil?, since no small part of our oil comes from jackpot regimes, allied with terrorists.

Nuremberg was the scene of the RAF's single worst defeat.
http://www.valourandhorror.com/BC/Raids/NurmbrgA.htm If you want examples of bombing targeted at civilians, Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden and Tokyo are much more apt.

And as for being any more humane than Truman, that is we had better nuke em or we are doomed, then my friend I guess we are doomed. You sound like you're itching for WW3. I did my fighting over 33 years ago now. I am sure that our Generals , most of whom served then also, are not the fools you would like them to be.

"We blasted Nuremburg, we can do it again. To whatever 'pretty' city we choose."

Well your absolutely right, except we didn't blast Nuremburg. Your probably thinking of Dresden. One thing I am sure of is that the men running this country, and this war if it comes to pass, are much wiser, and for that matter, more humane than the likes of you.

"I support an Israeli pre-emptive strike against Iraq. They can soften up the target with Neutron weapons and we can do the clean up. Everyone should keep their eye on Syria."

Neutron bombs have one objecvtive, to kill people - men . women and children - and leave their precious property behind. When we (The US Army) do the clean up, what do you have in mind? Go into Baghdad and bury the close to 3 million women and children who were living there? Should we keep all their stuff? And keep our eye on Syria? What does that mean? Have Israel "soften " them them up too? I haven't been to Damascus in about 10 years, but it is a beautiful city, with more history in it than almost any other city in the world, And a very large (about 1.2 million people) part of the population is Christian. What the hell, nuke them too.Dear God you are a cold creature.

I got back fron VN in 69, and made up some some serious time in exploring the counterculture. I am sorry I missed the early days, 65-69, but I had a usually highly provacative, and usually enjoyable time exploring my mind with some chemical help, and exploring women, once I got home.

"Democrat dirty tricks in duplicity with the media. Won't be the last before November. This is what they do.

Exactly! The left will take any weakness and use it as a tool. It is the dems calling card to play dirty. They have no ethics, no morals, but those of Machiavelli."

This young woman has repeatedly violated the law, she is clearly an addict, she is in rehab for one addiction, and now crosses up again and its the Democrats fault? Get real, this woman is sick, not the victim of some grand Democratic conspricy. I don't care whose daughter she is, what party her parents belong to, she is one troubled person.

I think the boycott the arabs crowd ought to do a liitle leg work. The middle east holds 65% of the worlds oil reserves. This is a current link for oil reserves ,http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/iea/table81.html
The U.S. percentage has not changed, even though this is the most extensively researched area in the world. Hell, Nigeria has more oil than we do. We need to reduce our consumption of oil, through some as yet unarticulated combination of conservation and new technologies (fuel cells) and old technologies. Very little oil goes to power generation. Nuclear power isn't the answer unless we all switch to electric cars ( I get 12 miles to the gallon) Last year we imported 3.3 billion barrels of oil. We need foriegn oil, we will wither economically without it. Here is a link on U.S proven reserves. http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/infosheets/petroleumreserves.htm

Only eight? You sir (or madam) are seriously underprovisioned for these perilous times. I recommend a case of good house wine (currently drinking a delicious Sicilain) and we also have about 6 cases of superb french reds, and some california and washington reds ( Woodward Canyon and Leonetti). I would grab the family photos, if I knew where they were, first though. We are about 15 feet above sea level, less as you go down the yard to the beach. But seriously, We have travelled in Irian Jaya (the Indonesian held side of New Guinea) quite extensively, and I love those people.
