Schmidt Wins 08/02 11:05 PM The local affiliate Fox 19 has just called the race for Jean Schmidt over Paul Hackett 52 to 48 percent. Many thanks to all The Buzz readers who helped keep all of us on breaking news side of this. And thanks to everyone who kept reading late tonight as well. The Channel 9 affiliate has called the race as well.

Ten percent of soldiers injured in Iraq have died from their war wounds, the lowest casualty fatality rate ever, thanks in large part to technological advances and the deployment of surgical SWAT teams at the front lines, an analysis to be published today has found. But the remarkable lifesaving rate has come at the enormous cost of creating a generation of severely wounded young veterans and a severe shortage of military surgeons, wrote Atul Gawande, a surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Job growth slowed significantly in November, according to a government report Friday that came in far weaker than Wall Street forecasts and trimmed the strong number reported in the previous month. The report raised new concerns about the strength of the economy going into the important holiday buying season. It also suggested the much stronger-than-expected job gain posted in October was perhaps a blip and not the start of a labor market recovery. The Labor Department's November report showed a seasonally-adjusted net gain of 112,000 jobs, down from a revised 303,000 the previous month. Economists surveyed...

Really I have no idea. Do your best/worst.

Northern Lights are visible right now. I'm in Wisconsin and we have partial cloud cover, but I can see them through the gaps. It's pretty spectacular if you can see them.

Title is self explanatory.

Bring your cameras to the polls tomorrow when you vote (that's everyone here, right?). Take a picture of anything suspicious. Anything that doesn't seem right. Any blatant shenanigans. Especially if you are in a swing state. Pictures are worth a thousand words when it comes to evidence. Let's goet ou there and WIN this.

Sorry for the Vanity, but the Media and the Kerry campaign keep trumpeting the increasing death toll. It seems to me things got better this month, though yesterday may have changed that. I have searched for this info but been unsuccessful. Does anyone have a good source for numbers?

Here are some pictures from a Bush Cheney rally this morning at the GOP headquarters in Madison, WI. There were some good speakers, and the crowd was very enthusiastic. Dave Magnum was there, he is hoping to unseat Tammy Baldwin this year. Tim Michels was there, he has a decent chance of unseating Russ Feingold. The RNC just announced this week that they would be spending $600,000 on Michels' behalf in the last 5 days before the election to unseat Feingold. Michels introduced Rudy. Here is Tim Michels and his wife: Rudy waiting to take the podium: Here's a crowd...

I went to Madison City Hall today at about 4:00pm. I took some pictures of the Kerry booth, about 75ft from the front door of City Hall. I then went inside and just listened to what the workers were saying to people waiting in line. I heard one person say he was a resident of Minnesota, but was registered to vote in Madison. He said he had since changed address and asked if he needed to re-register. He was told as long as he was already registered it wouldn't be a problem. Here's a picture of the Kerry/Edwards booth outside...

I just got a call from the Kedwards campaign inviting me to their rally on Thursday at 10:00am, at the Capitol square in Madison, WI. Is anyone planning on FReeping this rally? I might go and bring my sign: They told me to bring my cell phone, as they are planning on "creating the world's largest phone bank". If I go I will take pictures and post them.

Here's a sign I'm working on for a Kerry rally here in Madison that's coming up. I got the slogan from another thread, I'm sorry but I don't remember the original poster. I still need to change the phrase at the bottom. It will say either: A STRANGER AMERICA or A WEAKER AMERICA or A STRONGER AL-QAEDA Let me know what you think. FYI a 470pt Times New Roman font is a pretty decent match. You can also try the Georgia font.

I'm making a sign for a Kerry rally here in Madison next week. I'm using an altered Kerry Edwards sign for one side, and would like the stupidest pics of Kerry for the other. The largest image possible would be best. Post any other stupid pics of Kerry that might be good in this thread. I'll post a picture of the sign when I'm done. Thanks

Did anyone just see this? It was about Reagan and the Cold War. Basically it went through the history of his presidency and his dealings with the Soviets. It put him and his efforts in a very good light. I'm 26, so I barely remember the last term of his presidency, and nothing from his firt term. I was struck by all the similarities of then and today. You could superimpose the anti-war protestors of then, and put them in NYC today, and not see any difference. He was often accused of being a war monger and a cowboy. It's...

Is anyone else listening to this? Fund is talking about all the ways to subvert the election process. How early voting is starting tomorrow. And how the voti ng process is no longer in line with the constitution. Voting is now a month long process. People no longer vote on a single day (Nov 2nd).
-
Where are they? It's October 15th. She was supposed to release them. Why is no one talking about this?
-
Where are they? Today was the day she pledged to release them. Where are the calls from the media? By the way, I attended a Yonder Mountain String Band concert last night. The opening act was a so called musician named Todd Snider. He sang a song where he called conservatives black-hating, tree-killing, gay-bashers. I was insulted and I booed. I was the only one. Thankfully YMSB, seems to respect views and kept politics to themselves.

I have mangaed to track down the euivalent of BUPERSMAN 3830300 mentioned in Kerry's so called discharge paper. Here is his discharge cover letter that's causing controversy: http://www.johnkerry.com/pdf/jkmilservice/Honorable_Discharge_From_Reserve.pdf BUPERSMAN 3830300 has a current equivalent called MILPERSMAN 1920-160. Here is the conversion table: http://buperscd.technology.navy.mil/bup_updt/upd_CD/BUPERS/MILPERS/CONVERSION%20CHARTS.PDF MILPERSMAN 1920-160 contains no useful information in itself. It just points you to a new document called SECNAVINST 1920.6a. Here is SECNAVINST 1920.6a: http://dont.stanford.edu/regulations/secnav.pdf YOu can see that this is the relevant document. You can also see that it is long and very complicated. Hopefully someone can make some sense of it.

I don't care what the media says. Bush won the debate on substance. If you look at what the candidates have been saying since Friday, Bush has a whole new set of Kerry fodder to take aim at. For instance the "global test", "wrong war, wrong place, wrong time", and Bush made a mistake going to Iraq, but our troops aren't dying for a mistake. What new ammo does Kerry have? Bush gave him nothing to attack. People in the media keep saying that neither candidate made a verbal gaffe, but the Global Test remark is going to turn out...

Is there any way to verify that there was either no waiting list, or a very short waiting list to be admittied into the TexANG as an officer or pilot in the late 60's? It seems to me that if someone could actually get a copy of the waiting list, this could blow the whole preferential treatment story wide apart. I realize there might not be an actual "list", but is there any way to verify this?
