As much as I want the Florida Supremes to rule that the law means what it says it means, I think we just might come out of this mess even stronger if they rule against us and allow Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade to finish the hand job. Because, if you understand the numbers that we are seeing in the precincts that the three counties have reported on thus far, Algore is not getting anywhere near the vote gain that he needs to overcome Bush's 930 vote lead. According to an ABC News update, Gore has only picked up 108 votes in Broward County, with 80% on the precincts reporting. And BUSH has a net gain of 7 votes in Palm Beach County, with 40% of the precincts counted. At this rate, there's no way Gore even comes close to making up the 930 vote deficit. In Broward, after the first machine recount, Gore was leading Bush 68.5% to 31.5%. The vote differential was 209,338.Yet Gore's only adding one vote to the margin for every 1,938 that have been recounted. In Palm Beach County, Gore won 63.8% to ...

Like most Americans, I would like to see this sordid mess in Florida come to a quick and favorable end. And I am growing more confident that George W. Bush will ultimately win this fight (again!) and go on to be a fine President. At the same time, however, I almost hope that the Democrats will continue their despicable attack on the Constitution, the truth, and common decency. For I believe that the overwhelming majority of Americans, be they Republicans or Democrats, are honorable and decent people. According to CNN, Slade Gorton has now extended his lead over Cantrell to 12,950. If nothing else goes our way this weekend, at least we may end up with a 51-49 edge in the Senate. Of course, with the gutless Trent, "Sellout," Lott at our helm, I'm not sure what that's worth.
