Another piece of advice: Are you on LinkedIn? If not you should be. Get an introduction to the hiring managers at the two companies at which you are applying. LinkedIn is a good way to make the connections.

Here is my story:

When the Shuttle program ended I got laid-off. I was over 55. I had been a Rendezvous software systems engineer for nearly a dozen years and had started on the Shuttle program back in 1979. There was no demand for space navigation types.

So, I spent the last three years unemployed right? Or at least underemployed.

Nope. I had a new job, in a different field and at the same salary within a month of layoff.

How did I do it?

First, I found the intersection of what I liked to do, what I was good at, and what there was a demand for. That proved to be tech writing.

I put together a one-page resume highlighting my tech writing experience over 30 years. One page. That’s it.

I included everything that would make someone hiring a tech writer salivate, and left *everything* else out.

I also put the resume in terms of what benefit the employer would get by hiring me, rather than extolling my accomplishments. The employer didn’t care about my awards - just how I made his life easier.

If you cannot capture the attention of a hiring manager in the first half-page of your resume he or she isn’t going to bother with the rest of it — whether the rest is half a page or ten pages. So, why bother with a multi-page “ain’t I wonderful?” resume.

If she had anything other than a very distant relationship this guy would not be in prison right now. He’d have fed the fishes long time since. So I don’t think so.

Not that I mind this guy staying in prison, but isn’t it kind of late for the state of New York to be worrying undermine respect for the law? As far as I can tell, that’s a gone goose in New York.

If this poor schlub had just given a bit more in campaign contributions to various Democrats he would be a free man today. (It’s not as if the Democrats check to see if the contributor is clean.)

A woman can usually get away with running over a boyfriend once. When you start doing victory laps, though . . .

I graduated from high school in 1973. Since these girls were juniors in 1971 it makes them just a year or maybe two older than I am. Makes me feel old to look at their pictures in the linked articles.

What you should do in a case like this:

1. Demand to see a warrant.

2. If they fail to produce one, have someone in your household call 911 and report that armed gunmen, perporting to be law enforcement officers are attempting to break into your house. State that they are not producing proper identification or authorization, and that for that reason you suspect they are imposters. And tell the 911 operator to tell the responding officers to be careful because you believe these individuals are dangerous.

Stone the judge. For blasphemy, of course.

Oh. My. When you’ve lost Charlie Rangel . . .

Of course, the “honorable” Charlie Rangel has his own Jones about the IRS. They tagged him off base a few years back, and I’ll bet he has a long memory. This is payback.

Levelled for gravel to use for road filler. Do you know what this means?

4. Gasoline requires drilling for petroleum.
5. Petroleum is cheaper because of fracking.
6. George W. Bush made money in the oil business.
