How a Muslim can see what is being done in the name of Islam, and still call his religion a ‘good’ religion is something that I cannot grasp.

Maybe you really didn't mean it that way, but if you did...

By that logic, no Christian can call his religion a 'good' religion based on past and current issues like the 'Christian' TV spots for $$$ and those people that go around 'protesting' at soldiers' funerals.

You probably don't really know a real Muslim, and therefore make those kind of statements. Much like how they come to conclusions that you're a piggish-devilish-infidel that should be killed.

    Ignorance is bad.

I know this might tick some people off, but...

It seems to me that most anyone that accidentally encounters a bear, wolf, or mountain lion wishes they didn’t have the experience. I know I have no desire to see them - and I’ve been close to and seen bears and cougars in the wild. Had one lion stalking me. No fun at all.

I am in favor of eradication except for in a few designated places (large enough for the animal’s survival) where people that want to find the predators can. Shoot any animals that get out.

Then we wouldn’t have to worry about our kids getting too far down the trail, or out in the backyard, or whatever. No worrying about predators while hunting/hiking around. We don’t let mean dogs roam the streets. Why let worse than them roam anywhere else? That goes for tigers, etc in other countries - why should parents there have to worry just so the westerners can be content knowing there are still tigers around.

Our grandparents almost had these things extinct - most of us agree they were smarter than we (collectively) are now about such things.

My 3 year old stuck a decent chunk of blue playdoh up his nostril once. He came to me crying with blue snot streaming out of his nose. Took about an hour to get it out - working his nose every five minutes and then letting the natural juices work the playdoh to where it would run out.

Okay - you want a story?

My brother in law was all-american in athletic and mental capabilities. Humble, nice, religious, conservative and patriotic through and through. One of the best guys I've ever known. Graduated with a BS in chemistry with a 3.97 GPA from one of the top universities. Went to Vanderbilt, was top in his class in med school. Had two kids, nice wife, at age 26 he was on a roll to the top.

Over a period of two months his memory fell apart into reality and imagination. He couldn't remember what he had done and what was total imagination/hallucination. He'd call his mother asking her if such-and-such really happened.

After about six months of this he went to a doctor because he had started to hear voices in his head telling him all kinds of things. He could no longer focus on his studies and moved back home to try and work it out.

Things got worse and he eventually was taken to a mental hospital, where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

He was given medication that helped him with the voices, etc. but took away his powers of concentration even further. He got a job at a chemical manufacturing plant and worked there for 6 months until they fired him because he couldn't remember from one day to the next where he had left off the day before.

This husband and father of 2 could have just given up and gone on welfare, but to support his family he went out and got a job as a landscaper that paid just enough to pay his bills.

Well, it turns out that it couldn't pay ALL of his bills. The bill that took the most was his medication. So, in order to keep his family under a roof and with food on the table he started cutting back on the amount of the medication he was taking, all the while telling his wife every morning that he had taken the full amount. He figured he could handle it.

Eventually he had begun taking so little that his condition started to worsen, and it worsened to the point that he became so depressed and distraught that within 2 years of the illness taking effect, he killed himself. At the time of his death, he had NONE of the medication in his system.

So there you have a nice story. Is she to blame in any way for his death? What if he had totally freaked out and killed someone besides himself? Is it his wife's fault? Is she to blame? I am here to tell you that she did all that she could to help him through it. Because he was so determined to be able to beat the schizophrenia, she never knew until it was too late.

Andrea Yates had never killed one of her kids before. They had always managed to make it through her psychotic episodes. Even when he knew that his wife was off of the drugs, how was he to even imagine that she would do something like that? You can cry and wail all you want about "but, but the doctors told him...." The fact is they had always made it through and as husband and wife they figured they would be able to make it. Well, they didn't, and she did what she did.

She has proved that she needs to be taken care of in a mental institution or prison the rest of her life. She had not proven that before. Visit a mental "hospital" sometime and ask yourself if you would feel okay committing someone you love to that condition with only "possibilities" as the guiding factor in your decision.

And to those of you who don't even believe in mental illness, I was with you before all this happened. Since then I have realized that for some reason I believed that every part of a human body could have something go wrong - every part but the brain. But the truth is, the most complex part of the human body is made of the same stuff as the rest, and when something goes wrong there, the problems are more complex than anything else.

A parent's first obligation is NOT to his/her children. It is to their spouse.

See my post above. Until you live with someone with a severe mental illness, I strongly suggest that you refrain from judgment of those who do.

As an appendix to that rant, I'll say that the Japanese of that time were responsible for allowing such a government, just as the German people were. I am very thankful that I was born in this nation with its roots grown deep in the bravery of the Founders to stick up for what was right and watered with the blood of patriots since that time.

But even though liberals and others are hacking at that foundation, I will never support the denial of rights to those who work within the processes guaranteed by the Constitution. It's my duty to work within that framework to uphold the foundation.

NOBODY can defend FDR permanently confiscating the property of those considered a "security risk." If the police permanently confiscated your car because you were at fault in a traffic accident, would that be alright? You had PROVED yourself to be a menace. None of these people were proved to be any danger.

Debate it all you will, but FDR and the Gov't he headed stepped FAR over the line on that count at least.

And I'll throw in on the "Is it okay to round up Americans if they look like they might be trouble?" question. NEVER will it be okay to round up a bunch of citizens of this country based on what they look like or who they know.

Based on this hatred of Japanese-Americans because of what the Japanese military did means the rest of the world probably has plenty of reason to round up Americans in their nation just because of some of Bill Clinton's actions. Shoot, we hate the guy enough.

I lived in Japan for a time in the 1990s and I met several old men that were still sore about losing the war (like many Americans are even though they eventually "won" big), but I met far more old folks who were terrified of their own government at the time and were VERY relieved when Japan surrendered and their leaders were taken. Several of them told of how their entire family sat around the radio and wept with joy when Hirohito announced the surrender.

An old blind woman recalled taking all her younger brothers and sisters out in the fields and running for cover when the Allied planes would come on strafing runs through her farming village. Why were they a target? Was it just?

War is never good. The Japanese paid for the war their evil leaders put on them, just like the Germans did. Several on this thread seem to fall right in line with the mentality that allowed Hitler to take power over his people. Hitler's rise to power included the hold the "subversive non-loyal element" propaganda had on his countrymen.

    My 2 cents -

As a Nevada native and resident I've always thought that there isn't any better place to put the stuff as long as they can get it to its destination safely.

Where Nevada went wrong was that they should have charged a large fee (with a big smile on the face) for taking care of it. Its all about hospitality. We already do that with gambling, but this would have been a far better way to get money.

We knew they were going to put it in Nevada all along because it makes sense. But now its just gonna be rammed down our throats with no returns but plenty of potential risk.

P.S. I really don't think keeping it is much of a risk, but it rounded out the phrase :-)
