  • The Price of Citizenship

Every good citizen makes his country's honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it. Andrew Jackson I have pondered long and hard about the benefits of citizenship in today’s United States of America. Ultimately, I decided there was not a benefit, but a price – a cost – against which we citizens have bartered ours and our children’s lives, livelihoods, and freedom. The most basic “right” of citizens is to participate in the elections...

Something is different. The Democrats tried to smear the Republicans and President Trump (they are separated for a reason!) with a government shutdown. They failed. The Democrats' base constituency is now screaming for their scalps. One millennial girl openly called for dems to disavow incrementalism and go for broke - scorched earth politics, when the dems are already losing. We have a President who knows how to bypass the media and reach millions of individuals, each of which is capable of self-thought, of observing and deciding for themselves. The media is malignantly indignant over being "maligned" as "fake news", when...

I am not in the habit of posting vanities, but my family and I need some prayer. My Wife of nearly 28 years and I are adopting a little girl. The mother asked up to adopt, but has recently been giving mixed signals as to whether she still wants it to happen. The father has no interest in his youngest daughter. I learned today that we finally have a court date in late May. I hope and pray that the mother realizes what is best for the little girl, who has been living with us full time since August 2016....

Diversity is a battle cry of the modern American left. They demand obeisance to diversity in gender, in race, in everything except opinion. Where viewpoints are concerned, they demand conformity within their narrow parameters. Witness the verbal and physical attacks perpetrated against Seth Drayer by Victoria Duran, where Duran shouted “No uterus, no right to talk about it. Understand, Mother f—–?” Did you catch that? If you are a male, you have no right to have an opinion! How diverse! And consider the senior New York Senator’s opinion: “We wouldn’t tell the owners of Hobby Lobby to convert to a...

I found myself writing a gripe-out email today to CBS for the garbage smears they have inserted in their top-rated show NCIS. Last night, they smeared Sarah Palin, implying she is a trigger-happy and irresponsible shooter. Last week, they misquoted Rush Limbaugh, stating that he believes that (legal) immigration is a grave threat to the country. Gone is the crisp inter-character play from previous seasons. In its place some flaming liberal writer has taken it upon themselves the alienate fully half the audience for the show. Am I the only person to have noticed, or does this really appear to...

Never before have I seen a political statement in the guise of an AFV nominee - much less a $100,000.00 finalist! And yet, here we are, with "main man" "yes we can" lovingly caroled to by a child too young to know anything about politics. But AFV producers and writers surely know - and their decision to politicize a feel-good show has cost them a 19 year viewer. I cannot believe ABC is so dense as to misunderstand the appeal and durability of AFV, a 19 year sensation in the prime time TV business. It is inescapable, therefore, that the...

Please pray for the family of my dear Friend David K. (I don't believe he was a FReeper, so I'd like to keep his name as an initial). David passed away at this afternoon in the Seattle, WA area. He was in his mid-forties (just a couple of years older than I am). He lived in Seattle with his wife and three darling young boys. David is no longer in pain from the cancer that he fought for 9 months, but his family will need all of the grace and blessings we can bring through prayer. Thank you all in...

Barbara Ballard realizes it’s a bold move. Her daughter, Katie, is 4. The state says she should start kindergarten in the fall. But Katie won’t be boarding a school bus and making macaroni art projects with 25 other children. Instead, she’ll have “school” by herself at her mother’s office in southern Lawrence, where Ballard owns a technology company. Ballard plans to home school her daughter, and in doing so joins a growing number of families who choose not to send their children to public or private schools. “It’s a strong statement: I don’t think the professionals can do as good...

Sep 10, 2003 Former Head of Cadet Discipline Says She Never Saw "true Rape" at Academy By Robert Gehrke, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - The Air Force Academy officer formerly in charge of cadet discipline told military investigators that she never saw a "true rape" at the academy, and that problems were merely a result of a permissive attitude toward drinking and fraternization. Col. Laurie Sue Slavec made her comments to an Air Force investigator looking into allegations from female cadets who said leadership at the academy was indifferent to their claims that they were sexually assaulted. They said...

In a spoof commercial hawking an album called "McCain Sings Streisand," the senator portrayed himself as a man who "has served his country in the military, the Congress, and the Senate," said the announcer. "Now he serves America with song." That's when McCain jumped into a brutal rendition of Streisand's "Evergreen": "Love, soft as an easy chair; love, fresh as the morning air," struggled McCain as his monotone voice fought to find to find the right pitch and key. "I've been in politics for over 20 years, and for over 20 years, I've had Barbra Streisand trying to do my...
