Again, this photo of a young Navy serviceman is not Fr Vincent Capodanno, to the best of my knowledge...

He was a priest in Maryknoll, then entered the Navy Chaplaincy, serving in Nam for a second tour of duty when he was KIA on Sept 4, 1967.

I do not believe that the photo of the young Navy man on the Fr Vincent Capodanno memorial (nicely done) IS Fr Vincent... he was not in the Navy until long after he was a Maryknoll missionary, and then went in as an officer.... I do not know who the young man is, but I am almost positive it is NOT Fr Vincent, as I have been following him for about ten years, and never saw that photo....

    God bless!!

I could be mistaken, but I believe that you are crediting the wrong person with this message. Each of the messages has the person’s name UNDER their statement, from what I can see on the wsj site.... Therefore, instead ofDaniel Younger Itasca, Texas, I think that it should be Alec Ellison...?

Under 45, lover of the outdoors, a Republican reformer who has taken on the Republican Party establishment, has many children, and a spot on the national ticket as vice president with less than two years in the governor’s office — you describe Teddy Roosevelt in 1900 and Sarah Palin in 2008.

That article is right on, but... the authority to proceed with the killing of the mentally retarded, disabled, mentally ill, etc was a result of court decisions JUST like the ones of Nancy Cruzan and Terri Schiavo!! Thank you for that link, as I had not seen that article yet.

EVERY life, from conception to natural death, no matter what Mankind may think, is precious in His Sight. He is the Author and Giver of life, and you said it well. No one but the Lord Himself has any right to determine when we go to meet Him. I also am concerned about Michael Schiavo's family decisions... I question why Terri is where she is today. May God have mercy on him and on his attorneys, as well as those of the Nancy Cruzan and other similar cases. And once again, your post was well said, as was Bishop Vasa's statement.

In no statement made by the Florida Bishops was this spelled out so succinctly and directly. Nor in any statement made by ANY Bishop including those from WI and VA has it been spelled out so very clearly.

I applaud all who have said that this is NOT right, but I give my highest accolades to Bishop Vasa of Oregon, who KNEW it needed to be said PLAINLY and FORTHRIGHTLY. To remove her food and water is to kill her. She is NOT dying.

A good attorney could and has used the burden aspect of the statement to remove the food and water. Bishop Vasa has CLEARLY shown that this is NOT permissable unless the person can no longer digest (assimilate) the food and water, which does eventually happen as death draws near. Again, I applaud Bishop Vasa's directness. NO one should sign any living will without his clear directive being included.
