I know it was just an opinion, that is why I was offering my experience to the thread, from someone who has actually lived this; for review by those who have a lot to say about it but actually know nothing about it. I found out when I was about 5. Another good book that talks about the shame of that time, both for the mother and the child is The Girls Who Went Away. I don’t really fault the doctor. There are too many babies that end up in terrible circumstances, especially when the meddling DHS gets involved. She was actually pretty courageous. It is adopted parents who are prone to these deathbed confessions that wreak havoc. The Cole Babies would have been better off never knowing the truth at this stage of their lives.

I am adopted, I found my birth family at age 43. You can’t understand the rage at being denied your own biological origins, given a fake birth certificate and told it is true, and being an adult and never being old enough to know the truth about your own history because of archaic laws and court orders, unless you have been there. Adoptees are the only class of people who are not allowed their own, unamended birth certificate in 47 states. How is that for less government control, all of you conservatives?

Adoptions are handled much better now in the modern era. I suggest those of you who know so much about how adoptees “should” feel or be grateful for, read “Journey of the Adopted Self”. Also my mother was 17, raped, and sent away to deliver me. The shame heaped upon women in those days was crippling. I support adoption, but not the way it was done in the 60’s. I feel for the Cole Babies.

It is an excellent use of satire by young conservatives and more effective with younger people than any speech. This same thing happened to me in Mexico. You just can’t behave like a Midwesterner with these people. I did not want to be rude, but these types can’t take a hint, you end up having to be rude to escape! just say NO.

I am with you in spirit. Cedar Rapids/Iowa City was totally flooded in to disaster zone two years ago. We did not get much help or attention because we did not riot, demand fedgov save us, sandbagged and helped each other and did the best we could to take care of our own. Probably similar to where you are. It is devestating, areas of cedar rapids are still uninhabitable, courthouse still not functional, hundreds of houses and businesses destroyed I am so sorry for what you are going through.

I agree, it is getting impossible to tell truth from satire; What is real and what is not. The whole country is in an abusive relationship with the great manipulator. Some will start to be filled with doubts due to smooth talking and twisting of the facts. Like all great liars he occasionally uses truth as a weapon to garner self doubt in the objects of his attention. If you read The Verbally Abusive relationship, the One uses basically every tactic in there to keep the constituents off balance and (his goal at least) under control.

All of the gay couples I know have taken care of the papework ahead of time and I live in Iowa, where gay marriage is legal. As with all mandates from on high, reverse it. What if the King decides it is not in your best interests for your children to see you on your death bed? That’s what rankles about this. Citizens gay or straight do not need a tyrannical king telling us what is Mandatory and what is not. Its all about control. This is OT, but similar in regard to the fact now we are all organ donors unless we specifically say otherwise. No matter how you feel about donation, I assume if your child is lying comatose, YOU would want to make the decision, not the government as to when to dc life support. That is where we are heading and these, for now, meaningliness controling Mandates and subsequent feel good press coverage, are basically grooming the populace for tyranny. I say Obama can stick his mandates. We are citizens with rights, not subjects to the King. To you gay couples out there, if you are waiting on a mandate from the King to allow you access to your partner, you need a better lawyer
