The state House of Representatives debated then voted overwhelmingly in favor of two resolutions that authorize educators to enforce state law over new Title IX regulations, as more than 100 protesters chanted in favor of transgender rights in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol on Wednesday. The bills were also overwhelmingly approved by the Utah Senate. Votes were cast largely along partisan lines. Convening in a special session, Utah lawmakers passed HCR301, sponsored by Rep. Kera Birkeland, R-Morgan, which will “prohibit a government officer from enforcing or assisting in the enforcement of the new regulations promulgated under Title IX.”

The University of Utah will eliminate cultural centers geared to Black, female, LGBT and other students as it shifts gears to comply with a new Utah law that targets diversity initiatives in public universities and other public entities. Instead, the offerings the centers have provided will be centralized in a new, more broad-based entity, the Community and Cultural Engagement Center. The changes were publicly announced Thursday, ahead of the July 1 deadline to comply with HB261. That's the new Utah law meant to dismantle diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives — typically geared to minority and marginalized students — and prod...

"Companies were seized, assets were frozen and lives were upended" as a result of misconduct by prosecutors for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, a federal judge said while dismissing a civil fraud case against Utah cryptocurrency brokers and awarding the brokers $1.8 million in attorney fees. U.S. Chief District Judge Robert Shelby upbraided the commission, saying it recklessly used "layers of false statements" in a "gross abuse of power," saying their misrepresentations were "deeply troubling" and undermined the integrity of the judicial process, before dismissing its case May 28 and ordering payment of fees that will ultimately be financed...

Last week, "students were not treating each other respectfully and things were occurring that they just did not feel were appropriate and conducive to education," Sorenson said.

On March 25, Salt Lake County prosecutors filed several felony charges – including six counts of attempted murder – against 26-year-old Anh Duy Pham. The charges represent four hit-and-run incidents investigators have linked to Pham and involve a total of six victims.
