100% regarding the plate carriers... various pols have already targeted plate carriers as ‘needing to be banned’. Legit NVGs have been too $$$ to get widespread use, but that’s changing. I’m sure they’ll come after those... along with optics that are ‘tactical’ in nature such as ACOGS, LPVs, etc.

yep... what I see isn’t what worries me... it’s the ambush while working off the banks of streams, etc. (western Montana) Fishing alone in grizzly country is pretty dern scary and not preferred, but those of us who do some of it, know the risks. I hump a big alice pack for a little extra size presentation... but probably means zilch to a determined grizz.

I would not rely on the 9mm to penetrate to vital organs of a 900lbs grizzly. Further, 9mm very well may deflect off of a grizzly’s skull.

yessir, that’s right... 220gr cast lead FP is the go to. I hear ya on the .45/70... better terminal performance on bear.. in my training, we put lots of rounds (4+) on target to blow out spines (hips work too) and create unpluggable holes. Now the unpluggable hole scenario is for a different purpose than the subject matter of our discussion. My carry sidearm is a Glock 19, so I like to roll with with the Glock 10mm in bear country only because I have so much trigger time with the Glock platform... and 15+1 10mm with rapid mag change capability feels good. Yes, I know... the bear is done of you’re done before you run through the mag, but still. lol.

I think because the age demographic of FreeRepublic is skewed to the older cohort, there is a detachment from how significantly the demographics have changed in the country in the last 25 years.
