We bought a used Chevy Cruze for my daughter. I only bought it because I knew the family who owned it, and it was a bargain. No major issues with it, but my daughter hates it.
Some people do better in one rather than the other.
When I had a private office, I was as efficient as working at home. I’d go back to a private office without issue.
But when I was in a cube farm or bullpen, my productivity decreased. I’d look for a new job before working like that again.
Going back to covid, I stayed at the office instead of working from home, much to the annoyance of a few coworkers.
Then, when everyone came back with masks, I requested to work from home, as I wasn’t dealing with the mask security theater. Again, to the annoyance of the same coworkers.
Trying to force coworkers to fill the role of friends is just wrong.
I worked at a small company for over 20 years. I thought some of them were my friends until they became petty tyrants over covid policies. One of the many reasons I work for another company now.
The downside is you will be passed over for promotions on a regular basis.
I never was, but I worked for a small company that was well aware of contributions. My current employer is much larger, but my manager is also aware of my contributions.
He may have a case, given his health condition. As I understand it from corporate training, Federal law requires reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities.
If the article is correct, it doesn’t appear the company tried to make the accommodation.
I remember in the ‘80s seeing classmates jumping off of a two-story building into a pool which had 6 to 8 foot concrete perimeter. One girl slipped on the jump and barely made it into the pool. I had to leave after that. Fortunately, no one was injured.
