  • What is our due diligence? RE: "Suspicious activity"

Oh I love this "See Something, Say Something" campaign.

I walked by a guy working a hangnail the other day. He looked suspicious holding those nail clippers, I should have called and turned him in. /sarc

In all seriousness, I don't know about rental or commercial vehicles but there are states where only one tag is required on the vehicle. If the vehicle was from a state that requires only one tag then the tag may have been on the opposite end of the vehicle (out of your sight). However, in your case you felt the need to call. It was your decision to make, whether it was right or an overreaction is something you'll have to decide. :)

I just pray those who answered your call didn't overreact or shoot the rental truck driver's dog if he/she had one.

    • Fist comes stopping you in public and searching you (no warrant), for your and the public's safety.
    • Next comes being punished for quoting the Founding Fathers, talk of small government, or speaking your mind, etc. Of course this will be for your and the public's safety
    • Next come the random vehicle "inspections" (no warrant), for your and the public's safety.
    • Next comes the checkpoints, "your paper's please", for your and the public's safety.
    • Then comes searching your home (no warrant), for your and the public's safety.
    • After that come the cameras into your home (if you have nothing to hide then you won't mind the cameras), for your and the public's safety.
    • Then comes doing away with certain amendments in the U.S. Constitution, for your and the public's safety.
    • Finally comes the elimination of elections, for your and the public's safety.

As a country, we've been going down hill since April 8, 1913.

Need help: Win32 exceptions in IE8

What do the exceptions say...can you provide a little more info? It could be due to any number of things (e.g. a plug-in, toolbar, virus, etc)

Also, unless you must use IE I'd recommend that you start using Firefox instead (version 3.5.4 or higher, of course). However if you're married to IE and would like a little more help, let me know and I'll attempt to assist you. :)

I still don’t see Obama’s name and picture up on the board. Everyone skirts around him, when he is, in fact, the driving force.

You need to look closer at the board, he was there.

I'll reserve judgment, but some classics should be left pristine and un-revisited, IMO.

You can say that again. If a sequel is to be written for a classic it should be by the original author, and in 98% of all cases...not written at all.

How Microsoft blindsided vulnerable Apple with Windows 7

Where's the BARF ALERT on this article? Microsoft blindsided Apple with Windows 7?

they sit stunned that Windows 7 is doing so well and they are left looking foolish with products priced out of the segment

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! *wipes tear from eye* You've got to be kidding me. Oh well thanks for the laugh.

I’ve been running Win 7 since Beta 2, and the RC. Haven’t seen one single BSOD or crash of any kind.

That's great! I'll have to remember to tell that to my friends who encountered BSODs after starting up their brand new computers that came with Windows 7 pre-installed. ;)

In all seriousness I do hope it does end up being a good OS (for users of Windows)...but...we'll have to wait and see.

Well, one reason I ask that is to sort of point out the fallacy of the old M$ canard that says Mac OS or Linux are not targets of viruses because of their relative obscurity. But Windows 7 has been out for a while now as a release candidate and is thus fairly obscure—when compared to Win XP. But Windows 7 is still plagued by viruses.

Since Windows 7 has been officially recently released for sale to the general public I'm sure it won't be long until we start reading/hearing about some new super trojan/virus/worm/malware/spyware that will make all previous Windows security issues pale in comparison.

Will I still need anti-virus and anti-malware protection on Windows 7?

Do you really need to ask that question? After all, this IS a Microsoft product we're talking about. :)

Microsoft is famous for releasing a kick-ass product after getting feedback from a crappy one.

Riiiiggggghhhhtttt... I seem to remember some of my friends who said that very same thing about Vista when it came out.

IBM is just having sour grapes, IMO. Screw the haters, I’m upgrading to Windows 7 Professional.

    Have fun with the BSODs!

Reality TV has jumped the shark.

Maybe this will be the end of "reality TV", at least I hope so. I'm so sick of faked/staged shows masquerading as "reality". The good part is that I can change the channel, the bad part is that most channels on TV carry one or more "reality" shows.

I saw footage of the balloon in flight on TV last night and it’s obvious it doesn’t have enough lift to carry a probably 40lb kid. Why the hell was everyone who had actually seen the balloon getting their panties all wadded?

I thought the exact same thing!

Anybody ever install VMware Server under Windows/ME?

I got it working under Win2K, but am thinking about something leaner and meaner for the hypervisor part.

    Experiences? Positives? Negatives?

I attempted to...once. The end result was an usurper being elected last year, a rip suddenly appeared in the time-space continuum that sucked twenty-three solar systems out of existence and last but not least it caused my cat to have a permanent bad case of gas that smells of rotten eggs and cabbage. So....I'd think that attempting to install VMWare on WinME would count as a negative experience.

Didn't that decade also have the population bomb too?

Why yes it was. The Club of Rome released a report in 1972 called "Limits to Growth" that started the 70's panic of ultimate destruction. One notable member was Dr. Aurelio Peccei who was an Italian business executive and co-founder of the Club of Rome. He published a book "The Chasm Ahead 69" and was the Chairman of the committee for Atlantic Economic Co-operation. At the time (1974), The Club of Rome was an informal association with a membership of 70 international scientists, educators, economists, industrialists, national and international civil servants from 25 countries. Its purpose was to "foster understanding of the varied but interdependent components - economic, political, national and social - that make up the global system". Naturally the organization has grown since '74 and is a self proclaimed "Think Tank".

The organization is still in existence and has a website www.clubofrome.at

No David Tennant = it’s gonna suck.

You can say that again! When I read that David Tennant wasn't coming back I decided that I'm going to stop watching. He is one of a handful (out of the the many actors) that actually made the Doctor's character believable and entertaining.

Even if we, the business user community, could be assured that CentOS will deliver security patches promptly from here on out I still think Scientific Linux is a stronger choice. I'm not saying that Scientific Linux has better code or provides a better computing experience than CentOS or any other Enterprise Linux clone. I am saying that it has a strong organizational foundation that CentOS lacks.

Sorry Caitlyn but I'm not gonna drink your kool-aid...I'll continue using CentOS thank you very much. IMHO she sounds like a shill for Scientific Linux, but that's just me. Nothing against Scientific Linux, it is a good distribution but it isn't for everyone.

Red Hat delivered Firefox 3.0.12, a security patch which closed five vulnerabilities classified as "critical", the same day Mozilla did. Scientific Linux (another RHEL clone) had it available within 24 hours. It took CentOS more than a week.

So? Get Firefox directly from Mozilla, that is what I do.
