If you admire Sherman, the four volumes by Shaara that follow him among others—especially him in the final two—paint a picture of a man who was an outstanding lieutenant to Grant, but never meant to be president.
He likely would share your eagerness to hang Calhoun. Grant and Lincoln, not so much.
