Two California Highway Patrol officers were killed early Monday morning on Highway 99 in Kingsburg on their way to another collision. The two officers died when their patrol car veered off the southbound lanes of the highway and struck the pylon of a freeway exit sign just north of the Sierra Street/Conejo Avenue exit. CHP Officer Axel Reyes said the initial call came in about 5:57 a.m., and dispatchers received the call about the officers' crash at about 6:07 a.m. as the officers were heading to another incident on the highway. The crash happened in the pre-dawn darkness, but there...

Levi Levering was the respected face of his family a century ago, when he earned an impressive reputation as an Omaha tribal leader and advocate. His influence extended from Macy, Neb., to Washington, D.C., where he successfully lobbied Congress in 1920 to protect tribal members' rights to their land. Now the face of the family is Levi's great-great-grandson: Nikko Jenkins. Jenkins stands accused of a 10-day killing spree in Omaha last August that left four people dead. And five other relatives — two of Nikko Jenkins' sisters, his mother, a cousin and an uncle — have also been charged in...

HALLSVILLE — Art teacher Brittany Williamson said her student simply wanted to “get a reaction” with his painting that depicted President Barack Obama with a hammer and sickle symbolizing communism. “That’s the whole purpose of art — to get a reaction,” Williamson said. I don't think I have ever posted a vanity on here, but I heard something today on the radio that was disturbing. During the last commercial break on Rush Limbaugh a paid advertisment came on attacking the U.S. House member from my district (Blaine Luetkemeyer) and said that we need to call his office to tell him to support President Obama's stimulus package, that the majority of Americans were for it, and it is wrong of him to oppose it. It kept repeating "we need to support President Obama." After it was done it said it was paid for by...

Jacob files amendment after cutoff Measure seeks to constrain utilities in ending service. By JOSH FLORY of the Tribune’s staff Published Tuesday, February 25, 2003 Three months after water service to his home was disconnected for failure to pay a bill, Democratic Senate Minority Leader Ken Jacob of Columbia won approval for legislation imposing new restrictions on water utilities in the three counties he serves. The measure, which Jacob added to a bill last week, stipulates that water service in Boone, Randolph and Howard counties - not including the city of Columbia - cannot be disconnected for nonpayment of a...

Barry Bonds sent a shot to deep right field to tie Mark McGwire's home run record. The Houston crowd went wild. I couldn't believe how much they were booing their own team. Of course, the play of the Astros wasn't much to cheer about. At least someone finally pitched to him. Three straight fastballs, and he was definitely going for the fence. Congratulations, Barry.

Here we go again. Now I am being forced to read a bunch of anti-80's crap in my English Composition class. This instructor is a pure Commie-pinko. I can't stand her, and have had it out with her numerous times. Remember, I am 6-7 years older than anyone in my classes, so I have the upper hand on all of the students as far as political knowledge. We are being spoon-fed liberal propaganda in the form of this book: "Signs of Life in the USA, Readings on Popular Culture for Writers." Authored by Sonia Maasik and Jack Solomon. I think ...

I had stated a couple days ago that I had started college at age 24, and being a true blue conservavtive, I couldn't wait to see how leftist/PC/propagandist the text was. Anyway, here's a report from the front lines of college USA. It's my speech class. The book we are reviewing today is "Human Communication," by Morreale, Spitzberg and Barge. (Obvious socialist wackos.) This is a 550 page book, so all I did was briefly flip through it and see what I could find. here are some excerpts from this quality text: From the table of contents: "Managing "me's" in ...

I just started college yesterday and I notice the infestation of the multiculturalists and diversity police. I am 24, and have not been in school for six years, so this is all kind of new. Due to my conservative point of view, I feel I will be doing battle with the typical campus liberals for the next four years. When someone accuses me of being a racistbigothomophobeextremisthatemonger, how do I counteract it? I know I will be right, but how do I put it so that they will never cross my path again? So that when someone knows when I ...

Zvenigorod, Russia (AP) - Along a road through forests and meadows, wealthy Russians speed to their country mansions in SUVs with tinted windows. They pass sunburned men cutting grass with scythes and women sweeping gutters with brooms. Garden centers offer Japanese maples, lawn chairs and hammocks, the must-haves of upwardly mobile Russians. At roadsides, old women peddle buckets of potatoes. All along the 24-mile highway from Moscow to Zvenigorod, new brick villas stand in stark contrast to wooden huts. Billboards trumpet the things the communists once forbade - holidays to Greece, designer clothes - but which most people now cannot ...

I've put some thought into this and would like my fellow Freepers to give me their opinions, and possibly answer this question for me. Why do unions support the Democratic party so much? Inherently, it just seems wrong considering liberals are so anti-development and anti-business, as where unions and their workers survive solely on business and development. I would think that they would be more in tune to conservative, pro-business principles. From what I understand, unions used to support the Republicans for quite some time, then switched to the Democrats. Is it the corruption at the high levels of the ...

Washington - With the debate on the Senate floor puttering along, Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson jammed onto a Capitol Hill subway Tuesday and hurried off to a meeting to search for compromise on managed-care reform. Earlier that morning, he took a call from President Bush on the same issue. And that evening, Nelson met privately with a group of Senate moderates to hash over legislative language with Sens. Edward Kennedy and John McCain, the main sponsors of the health-care bill. "This is make or break right now," Nelson said Wednesday. Nelson - the former governor, state insurance commissioner and insurance ...

I think it's time that all the Nebraska Freepers got together. If some other folks from around here want to help me set something up, let me know, and we'll do it. I would also like to include any Western Iowa people as well, not to mention anyone else in a nearby border state. It's time for us Nebraskans to get on the ball and put a stop to the liberalism that is slowly creeping into our usually conservative state. Let's get to work!!!!!

Once again, another classic from the Walter Scott Q&A. Q:Now that his his campaign finance reform bill passed in the Senate, what can John McCain do to top that? -R.Dudley, San Francisco, CA A:Don't be surprised if McCain,64, a maverick out of step with conservative Republicans, bolts his party and tuns for President in 2004 as a Democrat. He already has made alliances with them on some hot-button issues--campaign finanace reform, regulation of HMO's, gun control, opposition to the Bush tax cut--and most Democrats would welcome the charasmatic Senator into their party. -Walter Scott

I thought it would be fun for us Freepers to get together and rank our top five favorite and least favorite House and Senate members.Sometimes we get too serious (and rightfully so) on FR, but I thought it would be fun to just think of your favorite Conservatives and least favorite Socialists from each body and rank them.Hopefully this isn't too big of a vanity post, and my apologies if so, but it sounded like fun.Have at it!!!

In my Parade magazine, that comes with my Sunday paper, there is a section called "Walter Scott's Personality Parade." It is a write in Q&A page. Daryl from Madison, WI asks: William Rehnquist has expressed a desire to resign as Chief Justice. Who is likely to take his place? Scott replies: A leading contender is Sen. Orrin Hatch(R.,Utah), 66, a "compassionate conservative who even gets along with liberals. (Ted Kennedy is a good friend.) As chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he's privy to the ways of the Supreme Court, and his nomination would probably sail through the Senate. On ...
