IMHO the cultural war between Apollo and Dionysus is over. The classic dichotomy of Thinking and Feeling as embodied by the 2 sons of the Greek god Zeus which has been the center of the cultural war in the US since the 60's has been won. Among people who were old enough to remember, these 2 events very neatly cleave society as to which...

WE FORGIVE ALL YOU BOURGEOIS PIGS. PEUGEOT It is not for us to hold a grudge-not even against ignorant swine. And so we come back to America, where you think your replacement starter should come as fast as your cherished McNuggets. A starter is not a McNugget. It is a creation wrenched from the mind of man. It is a symbol. It is Art. Sadly, you cannot understand such things. So this time, like the indulgent parent, we add features expressly designed for Americans. Your speed, it is shown by the Heads-Up Mime. Your angst, it is calmed by the...

E.A. Hoebbel, excerpted from Lila by Robert Pirsig | 2/21/03 | ffusco

Anthropologist E.A. Hoebbel started with the premise that American values were derived from Native-American Indian values and gave a brief description of the Cheyenne Indians to illustrate this point. I have substituted "George W. Bush" for "Cheyenne male" in the following except: Reserved and dignified...George W....

Monday, 27 January, 2003, 12:46 GMT Europe and Iraq: Who stands where? Europe is split down the middle on Iraq.
