SAN ANGELO, Texas - A plan to begin reuniting parents with more than 400 children removed from a polygamist group's ranch has been thrown into doubt because a judge and the families are clashing over proposed restrictions. Texas District Judge Barbara Walther has refused to sign an order restoring custody to the parents until they agree to more restrictions than state child-welfare officials have proposed. Walther was directed by an appeals court to reverse her ruling last month putting all children from the Yearning For Zion Ranch into foster case. The Texas Supreme Court affirmed the appeals court's decision Thursday...

Six translations of Qur'an 4:34: "Men are superior to women on account of the qualities with which God has gifted the one above the other, and on account of the outlay they make from their substance for them. Virtuous women are obedient, careful, during the husband's absence, because God has of them been careful. But chide those for whose refractoriness you have cause to fear; remove them into beds apart, and scourge them: but if they are obedient to you, then seek not occasion against them: verily, God is High, Great!" (Rodwell's version of the Koran, Quran, 4:34) "Men have...

I know how to browse all the forums at once except the religion forum ? Ie suppress that forum and let the others through. The equivalent of clicking "Latest Articles" or "All of the Above" from the home page and just excluding the religion forum ? I've enjoyed the free republic for a long time but lately the signal to noise ratio coming from the religion forum is getting to me. Specifically the whole frip frap on LDS pro and con. Its a great thing to discuss its just not why I'm a freeper. Or do I have to either...
  • What Happens To Delegates When A Candidate Drops Out

What happens to the delegates a candidate has collected in the various primaries and caucuses when they drop out before the convention ? I have been searching all over and cannot really find an explanation about this. Do the delegates get to choose who they want to vote for ? Does the resigning candidates endorsement of another candidate impact that decision ? Does they go to the 2nd place winner in the state etc ? I'm sure it varies by state etc. How does this work ?
  • Living paycheck to paycheck gets harder *Barf Alert*

NEW YORK - The calculus of living paycheck to paycheck in America is getting harder. What used to last four days might last half that long now. Pay the gas bill, but skip breakfast. Eat less for lunch so the kids can have a healthy dinner. Across the nation, Americans are increasingly unable to stretch their dollars to the next payday as they juggle higher rent, food and energy bills. It's starting to affect middle-income working families as well as the poor, and has reached the point of affecting day-to-day calculations of merchants like Wal-Mart Stores Inc., 7-Eleven Inc. and...

On the eve of the U.S. presidential election, Sen. John Kerry's campaign continues to advocate normalizing relations and providing nuclear fuel to Tehran's radical mullah-led regime despite the Iranian parliament's defiant, anti-American vote to proceed with uranium enrichment, a key process in development of atomic weapons. Shouting "Death to America," and "Death to Israel," Iranian lawmakers decided unanimously Sunday to back the outline of a bill that would require the Islamic government to resume uranium enrichment. ......

A Rock Island man with a history of mental health problems was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday for robbing a Moline Kwik Shop of $22 while armed with a knife and a Winnie the Pooh doll. Robert Castleman, 48, was sentenced on felony counts of aggravated robbery and residential burglary in Rock Island County Circuit Court for two separate incidents that occurred in spring 2006. According to court records, he confessed to police on both crimes. The Kwik Shop robbery occurred in the early morning of April 1, 2006, at 1305 15th St., Moline. Castleman allegedly threatened at...

Humans have yet to see Earth's center, as did the characters in Jules Verne's science fiction classic, "Journey to the Center of the Earth." But a new NASA study proposes a novel technique to pinpoint more precisely the location of Earth's center of mass and how it moves through space. Knowing the location of the center of mass, determined using measurements from sites on Earth's surface, is important because it provides the reference frame through which scientists determine the relative motions of positions on Earth's surface, in its atmosphere and in space. This information is vital to the study of...

Short vanity about the IL 6th congressional district debates. In church today I learned that Al Jazeera had its own press team covering the most recent Roskam/Duckworth debates. I have not been able to find this reported anywhere in print or web. I'm curious how often this has been happening in house level races around the country and no one is bothering to report on it. Folks the terrorists are watching this election more closely than many Americans are. They are even watching house district level politics.

A 34-year-old bail bondsman and grocery store security guard was charged in Anne Arundel County with impersonating an officer after an investigation that began when he allegedly used emergency lights to pull over another vehicle that contained two real policemen. Karl Glenn Salenieks of the 1900 block of Cavalier Circle in Crofton also was charged with illegal possession of firearms by a convicted felon after police reportedly uncovered an arsenal of weapons -- including semiautomatic guns -- in his home.

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois drivers will have a variety of new rules to follow in 2006 from stricter seat belt regulations for teenagers to fewer chances to keep moving violations off driving records. As of Jan. 1, all minors riding with a motorist under 19 years of age will have to wear safety belts. The proposal is aimed at reducing fatal accidents among teenage drivers, who are more likely to be involved in collisions. “It’s to protect the lives of young people,” said Illinois State Police spokesman Rick Hector. “Teens are more likely to die in car crashes.” Hector said that...

Tim Pierce hopes he never has to depend on a new state anti-discrimination law protecting gays and lesbians. But if he does, he's glad the protection is there. The 39-year-old university instructor and his partner live in Oswego — a town about 40 miles west of Chicago and one of several in the state that didn't have laws protecting gays and lesbians. That is, until now. On Sunday, a state law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity will become a reality, nearly a year after Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed it into law and more than three decades...

Atty. General tells station owners to be charitable or be sued SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says 18 gas stations across the state either can donate $1,000 to the American Red Cross or risk being sued for price gouging in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The options are detailed in letters from Madigan’s office that began arriving at the stations this week. Officials said gas prices at some stations rose as high as $3.63 a gallon virtually overnight after Katrina hit. "When we’re in an emergency situation, such as we were, retailers have the obligation not to increase...

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) December 28, 2005 -- Following news that Al Gore and wife Tipper have purchased a multimillion dollar condo at the new St. Regis highrise in San Francisco, well-heeled home buyers throughout the city are clamoring to join the neighborhood. "Ever since people learned that Al and Tipper Gore were moving into the St. Regis, I've had three times as many inquiries about the place," says Damion Matthews, a realtor specializing in San Francisco's luxury condo market. President Bush's administration has threatened to sue Southern Illinois University, alleging its fellowship programs for minority and female students violate federal civil rights laws by discriminating against whites, men and others. In a move Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said "just doesn't make sense," the U.S. Justice Department charged that three SIU programs that aim to increase minority enrollment in graduate school exclude whites, other minorities and males, in violation of Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act. "The University has engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against whites, non-preferred minorities and males,'' says a Justice Department...

There is one other option I have not seen discussed here. And I think it would qualify as nuclear. If Cheney would order a very direct action to resolve the matter of those who are trying to Kill Terri and have men to carry that order out GW can in turn Pardon Cheney and all involved. Unless the House would be willing to vote for Impeachment there would be nothing that could be done to stop it.
