If ever there was a crash that tugged at the heart of the entire state, it was the one that took the lives of Joe Biden’s wife and baby daughter and hospitalized his two toddler sons 35 years ago, just weeks after his precocious election to the U.S. Senate. It was an unbearable turn of events, from one of the most daring political breakthroughs in Delaware political history to unspeakable grief, and there is no reason to make the accident appear worse than it was. While campaigning in Iowa for the Democratic presidential nomination, however, Biden did. “Let me tell...

There is much talk lately about the shortcomings of the M16 series, so I was particularly interested to see how it was performing in Iraq. ItÂ’s popular today, in some circles, to deride this weapons family for its direct gas method of operation. Some claim itÂ’s not reliable enough for military use, especially in the dust and sand of Iraq. Plus many still scorn its small-caliber, high-velocity 5.56mm round. ItÂ’s common to hear people say the terminal performance of this cartridge, especially in its standard military 62 grain M855 loading, is inadequate. So I was interested to see not only...
  • Brazilians Giving Up Their American Dream

Like hundreds of thousands of middle-class Brazilians who moved to the United States over the last two decades, Jose Osvandir Borges and his wife, Elisabeth, came on tourist visas and stayed as illegal immigrants, putting down roots in ways they never expected. After packing up their plasma-screen TV, scholastic trophies and other fruits of 12 prosperous years in the Ironbound in Newark, the couple and their American-born daughter, Marianna, 10, were scheduled to fly back to Brazil for good this morning. They expect their son, Thiago, 21, to follow in a year or two, despite his reluctance to leave the...

Below is what I sent CBS, Viacom, and my local station. It is important to tell the local station that you will switch to other local news providers for good if Rather is not gone. As an "old married man", I am not going to tell my wife which soap opera she should tape to watch after work. But new CBS entertainment programs will be ignored. This is their last chance. ********************************************************* Dan Rather needs to be taken off the air now. He was in charge of this attempt to influence the election to defeat the President by any means...
  • MCRGO - Local Government CCW restrictions barred by Michigan Appeals Court

    04/30/2003 7:17:44 PM PDT · by DmBarch · 6 replies · 250+ views
MCRGO Wins Ferndale Lawsuit! Michigan’s Court of Appeals in a unanimous, lengthy opinion reminds local government of its proper role. The Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO) is pleased to announce that Michigan’s Court of Appeals has found in favor of properly licensed residents who choose to carry in accordance with strict state laws. In 2001, the city of Ferndale adopted an ordinance prohibiting law-abiding citizens from carrying their licensed, inspected firearms in City buildings. MCRGO immediately filed suit on behalf of Michigan sportsmen and women everywhere. While the Circuit Court found in favor of the ordinance, today Michigan’s...
  • Ask MSNBC to Use Closed Captioning

Could you folks do me a favor. It has been nice for us to get the extended MSNBC coverage of the elections. But they never seem to use closed captioning for the hearing impaired. It can't cost that much to run the signal through the quick translator for live work. Also, when they re-run Dateline programs that were closed captioned when shown on the network, the captioning is not in the signal. Could you give MSNBC some feedback on their website? Even CNN is closed captioning... Thanks

The Detroit House races are 77 and 71% in and their turnout is half that in other districts in Michigan. Most other districts are at 40% or less. Bush is 869k to Gore 842K. To make even stranger, Abraham (R) leads 889k to 721k over Stabenow. Why did 100k Gore voters not go for Stabenow?
  • Reuters/Zogby Polled me tonight

Reuters/Zogby polled me on the presidential race. They asked my party and my liberal/moderate/conservative status. I told them I was for George W. One of the later questions was if I had totally ruled out voting for Al Gore - I certainly have. They also asked about my feelings on a federal law for english only instruction in the schools. A final question was about genetically engineered crops, with reference to the taco shells that were made with the unapproved altered corn. Go W!!!
