I'm voting in San Diego county, and my polling place is inside the local high school teachers' lounge. I thought this was weird at first, but now seems completely ludicrous. Prop 30 in California is for a major tax increase to fund schools. Why are they sending us to a school to place our vote? Every other year, it was in a neighbor's garage... Seems strange to me. I seriously doubt the Machiavellian aspect of it. But does anyone else think the school may have offered to use its facilities as a polling place to either dissuade people from voting,...
  • The Leadership Legacy of Steve Jobs

The news of Steve Jobs passing was like a hot branding iron, forged amidst the fire of creativity and ingenuity of the Silicon Valley at the turn of the 21st century. How would they lead? We feel strongly that the world is in desperate need of a different leadership role model today. By Ken Blanchard and Patricia Zigarmi September 12, 2008 As the countdown to Election Day nears, and the country is faced with the choice between Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama as our next president, we wonder how prepared we all are to make that choice. We know where the leading candidates stand on Iraq, health care, taxes and other key issues, but do we know them as people – their character, their values, their decision-making style, their attitude...

The Secrets of the Great Presidents 1. The courage to stay strong A President needs the ability to withstand adversity and motivate himself in the face of frustration. From childhood, Lincoln showed a determination to rise above the poverty into which he was born. Despite failures that would have felled most others, he never lost faith that if he refused to despair, he would eventually succeed. Roosevelt, by contrast, grew up with wealth, privilege, and love. His crucible came in a polio attack that left him a paraplegic at 39. While crippling his body, the paralysis expanded his sensibilities. He...
