Tea Party Republican and one-time congressional candidate David W. Hedrick pleaded not guilty on Monday to one count of fourth-degree assault domestic violence, court records show. Hedrick was arrested at his Camas home early Sunday morning after his wife alleged he struck her twice in the back of the head during an argument. Hedrick was arraigned Monday and released on bail. He is due in court for a pre-trial hearing Nov. 2. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a possible $5,000 fine. Reached by phone, Hedrick declined comment.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has reported that four police officers have been shot dead in an ambush at the Forza Coffee coffee shop at 11401 on South Steele Street in Lakewood Sunday morning. Threat to Baird not serious, FBI says The FBI said Tuesday it has closed its investigation of an alleged death threat against U.S. Rep. Brian Baird after concluding that the message left on Baird's Washington, D.C., office phone in August did not constitute a serious threat. "The information I received from our agents was that upon investigation, our special agents did not feel that the caller posed any threat and did not intend to conduct any act of terrorism," said Lindsay Godwin, spokeswoman for the FBI's Washington, D.C., field office.
