The biggest Chick-fil-A location in the world is now open in New York City. The new 12,000-square-foot franchise location had its grand opening on Thursday, drawing massive lines of people eager to satisfy their fast food craving and check out the behemoth, five-story restaurant. The new Chick-fil-A, located at One World Trade Center in the Financial District, features what the Georgia-based company called 'one of a kind design elements,' including seating for 140 people, an open-air rooftop dining area, floor-to-ceiling windows, two kitchens and a semi-private group meeting and dining space.

An engineer called the Florida Department of Transportation to report concerns about a crack on their new 'instant' bridge two days before it collapsed - but no one ever picked up their voicemail. FIGG's lead engineer responsible for the Florida International University, FIU, pedestrian bridge project, W. Denney Pate, left a message warning that they had observed some cracking at the north end of the bridge. The voicemail was not picked up until Friday - a day after the bridge collapsed killing six. Pate warned that the cracking areas would need repairs but assured that, 'from a safety perspective we...

An exchange-traded security which is supposed to be a bet on calm markets was collapsing after hours. The VelocityShares Daily Inverse VIX Short-Term exchange-traded note (XIV) is down more than 80 percent in extended trading Monday. The security, issued by Credit Suisse, is supposed to give the opposite return of the Cboe Volatility index (VIX), the market's widely followed turbulence gauge. The VIX doubled during regular market hours Monday, causing obvious havoc for a product seeking to track its inverse return. Though, the XIV dropped just 14 percent during regular trading. But then after hours trading began and the security,...

Fearing Deportation From U.S., Migrants Walk To Canada Many immigrants were encouraged to come to Canada after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted a tweet welcoming refugees in response to President Trump's first travel ban last January, says Marjorie Villefranche, head of Maison d'Haiti, a community center and advocacy organization in Montreal. "I think they took that message as a welcome message," she tells Here & Now's Robin Young. "When you arrive in Canada you have to go through an immigration process anyway, so they knew that it wouldn't be that easy. But I think they are taking a chance because...

“This is terrible attack, a shocking incident to occur on the eve of Christmas,” he said. “Whatever the motivation, this was despicable and cowardly act. I want to reassure all Australians this is an isolated incident incident.” He said the alleged perpetrator, Saeed Noori, came to Australia as a refugee and “has a history of serious mental illness and drug abuse”. “He has said in a number of what police are describing as ‘utterings’ that he attributes his actions to perceived mistreatment of muslims,” Mr Turnbull said.

A historian of conservatism looks back at how he and his peers failed to anticipate the rise of the president. --- Until Nov. 8, 2016, historians of American politics shared a rough consensus about the rise of modern American conservatism. It told a respectable tale. By the end of World War II, the story goes, conservatives had become a scattered and obscure remnant, vanquished by the New Deal and the apparent reality that, as the critic Lionel Trilling wrote in 1950, liberalism was “not only the dominant but even the sole intellectual tradition.” Year Zero was 1955, when William F....

When Trump hosted Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe in February, news of a North Korea missile test interrupted the proceedings, turning a dining area into a socially awkward situation room. Another test came last week, just before a visit to the Florida resort by Chinese president Xi Jinping. The world is, of course, accustomed to attention-seeking military stunts from North Korea. It’s just that they’re getting harder to dismiss. The rogue nation established its nuclear prowess years ago, and its missile technology appears to be advancing at an alarming rate. Some analysts believe it could have the ability to hit...

As someone who works in the stockmarket, I've been around long enough to have followed Trump's career for awhile. But this documentary had so many things I did not know, including his ability to rescue New York as it was literally crumbling. I think you will enjoy this film. It made me so sure we did good to make him president. Caveat: It's 1 hour 44 minutes. I loved ever minute.

The USS Iowa may have been the first of the Iowa-class battleships to be commissioned, but she was the last battleship to retire permanently. Once called the "Battleship of Presidents" (having hosted FDR, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush), the USS Iowa had the biggest guns on any U.S. Navy ship, used primarily for anti-aircraft missions: nine 16-inch guns mounted on three stacked turrets on the flight deck (capable of carrying 2000 tons of firepower). She was the lead ship of the last class of battleships in the Navy, having served in three significant commissions: World War II, the Korean War,...

A week or two after we spoke to the nurse, my mother sank into a state where she was rarely conscious. When she was awake, it was only the most basic part of her that was there: the part that told her legs to move to get her to the bathroom, the automated steps in brushing her teeth and then wiping the sink afterward. Her mind turned away from her children and husband for the first time. I wanted to know what she was thinking about. I wanted to know where her mind was. Being at the bedside of an...
