A public school district in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, has spent more than $134,000 in legal fees to obtain a permit to install only gender-neutral bathrooms in six of its new facilities, in violation of state code. In the fall of 2017, the Upper Arlington School District successfully passed a $230 million tax to rebuild five elementary schools and Upper Arlington High School. Construction on the high school and four of the elementary schools began in 2019.

One of the Defense Department's largest agencies confirmed Monday that it could not account for more than $800 million that had been earmarked for various construction projects.... The results of the audit for the 2016 fiscal year were first reported by Politico. The firm Ernst & Young found that the DLA had erroneously accounted for $465 million worth of projects it financed for the Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies. The audit found that the DLA had little or no documentation for another $384 million in spending projects....

President Obama finally addressed the nation Wednesday about the growing scandal at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. After meeting with VA Secretary Eric Shinseki he pledged to hold folks accountable. Thanks, Mr. President. By now most American have heard about the VA’s infamous patient “secret wait lists” which reportedly contributed to the deaths of up to 40 veterans in the Phoenix area alone. Those patriots were American heroes who served our country proudly. Yet they were left to die waiting to see a doctor. < snip > Despite the fact that Al Qaeda terrorists carried out the Sept. 11...

Bexley is not exactly the next Berkeley. Still, City Council members in Bexley are poised to ban protesters from picketing in front of any one particular home. An abortion doctor living in Bexley asked for the ban after picketers marched outside his home on Broad Street in May. Besides that doctor, a lot of corporate leaders live in Bexley and they, too, could be subject to such treatment, said Matt Lampke, the council's president. "They can protest in front of the corporation. They don't need to be protesting in front of their residence," Lampke said.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- When Army Special Forces Sgt. Denis McCarthy returned from hunting al-Qaeda in Afghanistan (news - web sites) to his career here as a financial analyst and to his schoolteacher wife, Eli, the homecoming was bittersweet. ''You're waiting for that Humphrey Bogart-Ingrid Bergman moment where you get off the plane and go run into each other's arms and hug and kiss, and it's like the movies,'' says McCarthy, 34, a member of the West Virginia National Guard who spent six months in combat near the Pakistani border. ''It's not,'' the part-time soldier says. His service in Afghanistan was...

Ruling: Agency violated rapist's rights Published: January 30, 2001 By NICOLE MONTESANO Of the News-Register SALEM - The Oregon Court of Appeals has overturned the 3-year-old adoption of an Ashland girl whose biological father was convicted of the statutory rape of her then-15-year-old biological mother. The decision is subject to appeal to the state Supreme Court, which has ultimate jurisdiction. The adoption was arranged by PLAN International Adoption Services, a nonprofit agency that operates nationally and internationally out of offices in downtown McMinnville. The acronym stands for Plan Loving Adoptions Now. A three-judge panel ruled that PLAN and the ...

The Constitution has survived another crisis, but it won't be out of danger until America unites behind a single vision of government Sunday, December 10, 2000 By GARRETT EPPS, special to The Oregonian In a few days, we may know the name of our next president. Like a patient whose fever has passed its crisis, the body politic can begin to heal. But don't be deceived. Our Constitution has passed through a near-death experience. Surgeons restored a "normal" heartbeat. But the muscle is scarred from the operation and will be weaker the next time trouble comes. And there will be ...

Alright everyone, this election is all but over (yes, I know there could still be court reverals, but we can't do anything about that), but we need to know what to do about the next election (2002). With the Senate split 50-50, we need to begin planning for next time. As I see it, the Republicans are going to have some trouble. The following are the Senators whose terms expire after the 2002 election (source is the Senate website). Allard, WayneRCO Baucus, MaxDMT Biden Jr., JosephDDE Cleland, MaxDGA Cochran, ThadRMI Collins, SusanRME Craig, LarryDID Domenici, PeteRNM Durbin, RichardDIL Enzi, MikeRWY ...

Reversing course, the IRS recently said that a taxpayer, whose child is kidnapped by a stranger, may be able to claim a dependency exemption for tax years during which the child is missing. It should be presumed that the taxpayer has incurred sufficient expenses for support of the child to satisfy the support requirement of IRC Sec 152(a), the IRS explained. In a July 25 memorandum, the IRS explained that parents of a kidnapped child would have to show that the expenses they incurred for support of the child were more than one half of the total support the child ...

I was watching the Today show with Matt Lauer this morning and he was recapping where the delegate count stood. For the Republicans, he said (and the graphic showed) Bush with 600+ delegates, McCain with about 225 and 14 UNCOMMITTED delgates. Having seen the delegate counts on Fox, it occured to me that those 14 delegates were the Keyes' delegates. Keyes may be many things, including the best candidate in the race, but he is not uncommitted on anything. This is but another, outrageous, example of the racism expressed by the mainsteam media toward Keyes. He is not a liberal ...

This analysis, ...

THEY TALK ABOUT GUN CONTROL BUT CONSISTENTLY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT CRIME CONTROL (House of Representatives - September 22, 1999) [Page: H8474] GPO's PDF (Mr. ROGAN asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.) Mr. ROGAN. Mr. Speaker, first I want to say to my friends on the other side of the aisle who have been reading a list of names: I think that is entirely appropriate that we remember the names of children who died by gun violence at the hands of criminals. But that tells part ...

A short excerpt from Bill Bradley's interview yesterday on This Week with Sam and Cokie. GEORGE WILL This week you have said several things pertaining to gay rights. One is that homosexuals should be able to serve openly in the military and also that the 1964 Civil Rights Act should be amended to add sexual orientation as an illicit form of discrimination. Yet you say you’re still against same sex marriage. And you give the following two reasons; because of the religious nature of marriage and respect for the diversity of views on the subject. Now there were a diversity ...
